I think you mean the steam pipe explosion.
I was there at the time

At approximately 5:57 pm an underground steampipe on Lexington Ave and east 41st street exploded. 1 person has died and about 30 are injured. MTA Bus service is limited around that area and many sections of streets are closed off. Asbestos has been found in dust particles but not in the air.

Well, it all started in 1524 when Giovanni da Verrazzano discovered it. Then the Dutch traded the Lenape Native Americans some beads for Manhattan Island. Insert war A, B, and C. Something about the British. Ellis Island. Wall Street. Broadway. Fires, blackouts, riots. Tall buildings. Tall buildings falling down. The overuse of the word terrorism. A crapload of shows about the cops, sex, sex with cops, etc. And there you have it: NYC.

But it you're asking about YESTERDAY, it was a steam pipe explosion on 41st and Lex. Read the news.

Yesterday morning there was torrential rain falling in the city. We're talking raining cats, dogs, mice and the kitchen sink.

Anyway, apparently, the cold rain water seeped into the steampipe, which caused a huge explosion on 41st between 3rd ave and lexington (the steam is about 400 degrees F) and steam, brick, concrete and mud shot up straight in the air. One person died from a heart attack, about 2 or 3 critical (according to the news this morning). One of the critical, was a guy who was the driver of the toll truck in the middle of the crater; he has burns 80% of his body.
