The answer depends on the person. Perhaps you need to go to a doctor and get a prescription for an anti-depressant. Or you might read some Buddhist books and learn the techniques of mindfulness(thought awareness) and meditation. Learn how to refocus on "now" while letting other thoughts pass by. Or listen to your favorite music while reading a good book with a cup of your favorite tea. Or go for a walk in nature; exercise itself can act as an anti-depressant. There is something out there that will work for you.

If the sadness and depression has continued for a long period of time, there is usually no way to "deal" with it without professional intervention. There are anti-depressants that are prescribed for people with chronic depression. You need to talk to a physician about your feelings to determine if these are transient albeit normal feelings or if you need a treatment plan. Chronic or Clinical Depression left untreated is not something you can "deal" with alone and it will "deal' you a very bad hand in life. No sense in getting it under control................best wishes

Seriously, turn it into ANGER. Use your anger constructively by working out, exercising on a punching bag, writing strong music/poetry, go for a long hard fast RUN.

It worked for me. I began turning my depression into my anger. And I used that anger to fuel my successes. (And there have been many)

you will get a lot of hits and hopefully some self-help advice.

if this persists, perhaps make an appointment with your doctor?

talk to someone, so something you like doing, get some sun. If it hangs on for a week or so, do what George says.
