Fatigue and sleep disturbances are, in fact, almost universal in patients with fibromyalgia, due to lack of serotonin, and if these symptoms are not present, then some experts believe that physicians should seek a diagnosis other than fibromyalgia. Up to a third of patients experience depression, and disturbances in mood and concentration are very common. Usually antidepressant medicine will help with sleep problems. For fatigue I recommend Co Q 10 in soft gel formula, 100mg three times daily. Within two weeks your uncle will feel more energy.
It's essential to take a Multi vitamin with all of these conditions. The nutrients in the vitamins will help many of the various problems.
I have written an article on Fibromyalgia and I have suggestions for self help. I'm enclosing a link where you can read about it.

I have a friend with fibro. She has found relief with an all natural health food juice. It helps fight inflammation which causes pain. I myself have had relief from the pain of TMJ with the same product! I used to take 4 Advil at a time and still had the pain. What pain is left does not even warrant 1 Advil! I think it could help your uncle! It would be worth a try. Good Luck!

He should go see a Pain Specialist. My mom has those same things and then some. Some Docs are more helpful than others, they will either give him medications or advice on how to feel better. In the meantime, hot showers, heating pads and a little excercise are good. I dont know if he moves around a lot...but its not good to sit around for a long amount of time. Jacuzzi if he can. Also mom has gotten the colon flush medications from GNC. She says it has helped a lot.

Try a magnetic mattress. I suffered from severe back, neck and hip pain after a car accident. For 2 years, I slept on sofa because at least the pain wasn't excruiciating when I woke up. Went to seminar about alternative medicine and they had these mattresses. They mentioned the problem your Uncle has and said it was like a miracle to people who bought it. Twin size was $1039. I ordered it. My brother-in-law said I was crazy. I told him if it worked, it was worth ten times that much. It works!! I have not had any pain since then. This site has them at a considerably lower price.

My mother also had the same thing. She was on pretty high doses of muscle relaxers and pain killers. Morphine and Oxycontine were the last she was on. She recently passed away from heart failure. If you go with perscription pain killers just be aware that they can build up in your system and cause additional problems and like many medications you will become tollerent of them and they will work less. I personally would ask your doctor about maybe an antidressent to battle the fatigue and see if that helps. Walbutrin is one that I know of that they can perscribed for off lable use for fatigue.

Oh boy could I write a book for you. I have fibromyalgia, which is usually accompanied by arthritis. I have read so many books on the subject. I would have to suggest going to the library or bookstore and getting a book on Fibromyalgia. There's one called "Fibromyalgia, and what your doctor may not tell you". This is a good book to give you a basic understanding of what fibromyalgia is and the symptoms that accompany it, as well as other diseases associated therein i.e. hyperglocemia, arthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, insomnia, fatigue, etc. But, in the book it suggests taking Guaifenesin for "treatment", that is not a good idea as the guaifenesin is a mucus thinner that causes yeast to "die off" in your body and actually makes the symptoms worse, (I know, I tried it, and it got bad). Fibromyalgia is caused by an overgrowth of yeast in the body. Depending on how our bodies process it, we may end up with Fibromyalgia, or Multiple Schlerosis, or an array of other diseases that we don't know much about. I have found that a diet without yeast or sugar helps more than anything, (since yeast feeds on yeast and sugar). You can purchase a supplement from your local health food store called "Candex" which is specifically for getting rid of yeast in the body (but it doesn't kill it off the way guaifenesin does, it just helps it exit the body without rupturing it and making it absorb back into the body). With a supplement like this though, he'll need to watch what he puts into his body to get the full benefits from it. If he's taking in things that make his body produce yeast, then the Candex won't be as effective. I started on a diet cutting out all yeast i.e. pasta, bread, cakes, etc, and sugars i.e.sodas, fruit juices, coffee w/sugar, etc. I stayed on this diet for 6 weeks, lost 20 lbs. (which was just a bonus), started sleeping through the night, stopped having panic attacks, and my arthritis didn't hurt as bad. I had energy like I was 15 again, and most importantly, I realized I had not lost my mind (like my doctors wanted to say since they couldn't find any "physical" symptoms. Now, when I start to feel like I'm in a "cycle" with my fibromyalgia, I get on the diet for a few weeks, and it keeps the disease at bay. Tell him to stay away from pain pills. I can not stress this enough. Pain pills make your body produce massive amounts of yeast (which is where the "dry mouth, constipation, and blurred vision" in the "side effects section on the bottle come from). People do get a "false sense of well being" for a little while, but they're left with even more pain after the "pain killers" wear off. I could go on all day about this subject. If you have any other questions about anything I've said, please feel free to email me, and I'll be glad to answer questions. I know it's a hard road to travel, especially without answers. Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Jules

Some people swear by acupuncture for these issues. It's worth a try!

I have actually had some help with my own fibromyalgia with B vitamins, specifically the yeast free variety by Sundown which seems to work better than the non yeast free.

If he has been diagnosed, then he needs to talk to his doctor about treatment options and medications.
