The same reason other faiths believe theirs is the only way to the divine afterlife. Because that is what faith means. Belief in something that fulfills your life. And Christianity happens to have some very limited rules to live by when it comes to viewing other faiths. Feel sorry for them, they are missing out on great knowledge by not listening to others beliefs with an open heart. And know that just as many of them do, despite what they believe to be true.

becuase religion plays on fear to attract followers, either by fear or by forcibly converting (or extortion).

This was a fact of the ancient and medieval worlds and still a factor somewhat today (although the violence aspect is not a prevelant in developed countries, but it is still hard to consider france a developed country- zing).

christianity back in the day had to compete with judism and other romanesque sects for followers such as mithrism and such.

These religions didn't say "you were going to hell" if you didn't accept "our" way. Thus this is the "marketing" gimmick christianity used to attract members, That and that it gave women more importance than other existing religions led more women to initially be drawn to christianity than men.

(something that ultimately killed mithrism, which likely would have been today's "christianity" if they had not excluded women and been so secretive).

2) The only way to Heaven is not Christianity, but in trusting God through Jesus Christ.

John 14:6 "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me'."

Just a side note, we aren't the only ones who think that we're the only way to heaven.
