I just started working in a small office. I brought in a small trash can and asked that people throw their cans in there when they were done with them. When I take the trash out i combine all the trash cans into one bag. my boss asked why i dind't just take the bags out of each can. i told him it takes 1000 years for a plastic bag to decompse in a land fill so i was trying to reduce the trash. He thought it was a good effort and lets me do things my way. I just throw little hints out there. I don't want to sound like an eco-nut or anything. then people just think you are kind crazy and ignore you or laugh at you.

Lead by example. Start having potlucks every Friday, where evryone brings a home cooked dish to share. We had potlucks a lot at church when I was little, but they don't happen very often now. If everyone brings something they like, no one goes away hungry. My family is vegetarian, vegan and omnivore, so we would be sure to bring a vegan dish since there would be lots for the omnivores, a little less for the vegetarian and maybe nothing for the vegan. So with a potluck you may be stuffed and unable to work for several hours, so plan ahead! I miss potlucks, so that's what I would do, maybe start small and soon you'll have everyone involved.

Unless you can buy a few acres of farmland and totally live off it without encouraging the burning of fossil fuels, you aren't going to be much of an example. People like me are going to point out every inconsistency in your own lifestyle with the philosophy you are peddling.
By the way the Amish are already doing this. It doesn't look like much fun either.

DONT SAY ANYTHING!!!!!!!! Just be who you are. Only bring up the Greener issues when asked why you do things certain ways. Keep your answers polite and short. The harder you push, the more resistance you get.

By example. I haven't met a person who didn't want to help. However, I meet lots of people who are going to get to it as soon as they can.
Use less water, turn out the lights not being used, let businesses you frequent know that you appreciate knowing what they are doing to assist in less power usage, and so on.
We are leaders in this shift in consciousness!! Be a Green Star!! Always ask yourself what else can I do to save my planet!!

As others have said - set an example. Let people know what you're doing, why you're doing it and how it benefits everyone.
Have a word with the bosses and see if they'll help out - look at recycling facilities, reducing power consumption etc.

Make everyone aware of the dangers of CO2. Carbon is the greatest poison of life and CO2 is the biggest poison of GREEN.
Encourage them to watch "An Inconvenient Truth." and if they have a hard time watching science, get them to see Live Earth when it comes out on DVD.
