I know I would not be lonely going to the one where I know lots of people, but I'm afraid I will get distracted from my work. Whereas, the one where I don't know anyone scares me because I don't want to become lonely. Which one is better if you want to study well and be happy?

I want to go to educate myself and get really good A-levels so I can go to university and study medicine. That's why I don't want any distractions, but I don't want to be a loner either.

i went to a totally different college which took me 50 minutes to get there on train from where i lived, and it was the best thing i had done, even thought i had loads of close Friends that went to the one nearer home i decided for a change, made load of new Friends, my life changed for the best and i could start a fresh (i hadn't done anything wrong but felt it would be great to start over) it was just great; making new Friends, building up confidence etc, it has made me allot more independent and in control of what i want to do.
My best friend and i met at college she didn't no many people and i new of a few but never spoke to them. you wont get lonely just speak to some people they will more than likely speak to you,
Go for the one you really think would be best for you and you know you will be most comfortable with. hope it makes sense.

If you are afraid of being distracted from your work, I suggest you go to the college where you don't know anyone. There are so many benefits to doing so. First, as you pointed out, it will help with your school work. Secondly, it will help you hone your social skills by forcing you to meet and interact with new people. Finally, as a combination of both, it may take you a bit longer to establish new friendships so while you are breaking into meeting new people, you've allowed your self the "distraction free" time to get acclimated to your new environment. GO FOR IT!

The fact that you have lots of friends at one college means that you won''t have any difficulty making new ones if you go the other one.
They will be others there in the same position as you.
Choose the one that does the best course. There's no reason you can't be happy there. I bet by the end of the first week you'll wonder what you were ever worried about.

I wouldn't worry about being lonely in either scenario...college offers many oppurtunities to socialize and you will meet new people regardless. I would recommend staying a dorm for at least a year whichever way you go...you will meet alot of new friends that way. If you were to go to the same school as your friends and live in an apartment with some of them as roommates you will be more likely to hang with them...you know them and it is comfortable.

My advice is to go where you don't know anyone and get involved. It's not hard to make friends in college. In high school that can be challenging, but in college it's not hard. Just find an organization to get involved in and you will have friends in no time. Live on campus and when your dorm holds events...go.
My other bit of advice is to go to the school that is strongest in which ever field of study you plan to pursue.
(If for some reason you didn't find friends or whatever, you can always transfer later.)

You should go to the best school you get into. You will make new friends anyway. Even if you go to school with people you know, you will most likely meet other people anyway. And no matter what you will be distracted at college!! (At least I think so, as I was.)

I think you should choose the one where you know no one. You would be surprised what you can learn about yourself and who you are when put into a new and strange place. You might even find that you don't know all that much about yourself. The people you surround yourself with have alot of influence on who we are. You can be anyone you want at the school where you know no one. You can allow yourself to meet and talk to people you may not of before. You might even met yourself there. The real you! Good luck! --- Joe

Broaden you life. Meet new people. You'll only be lonely until you meet someone.
Also, you're less likely to get distracted by your friends. Are you going to college for a degree, or for the social experience?
