against God. Consider Eve in the garden before the fall.

Another GOOD question.
Adam and Eve got hit with a triple whammy!
Sin comes in one or in some combination of these three areas. (1) Lust of the eyes...that means it looks real nice.
(2) Lust of the flesh...that means you visualize how pleasurable it will be to have your way with it.
(3) The Pride of life...that means you desire to be in FULL control of things even at the exclusion of God Himself!

Men won't like this answer, but here goes. I do not think pride was the original issue when you consider the events in the Garden of Eden. I think that Eve was deceived by the snake and even though historically she was the one blamed for the fall, I think that Adam is just as guilty. He was right beside her when she was tempted, he saw and heard the snake and did nothing to caution her or protect her or persuade her not to take a bite. And, the Bible does not say that Eve cramed the apple down Adam's throat. He freely and willingly took a bite. He was not blind. He knew the consequences the same as Eve. Afterwards, Adam was very quick to point the finger at Eve when God questioned them about it. So to answer the question about pride; no, I don't think it was pride, it was the art of deception and the seduction of evil that caused the initial fall. It was fear and shame and blame that caused a chain reaction and that chain is still growing today causing man to fall further and further into sin and separation from God.

God gave Adam responsibilty for the garden and told "him" not to eat of the tree of knowledge. Eve had not even been created yet. But to answer your question, yes. Pride is an ingredient in every sin. If it weren't prevalent then why would the Lord speak about the eternal necessity of denying ourselves or dying to self? C.S. Lewis has been quoted as saying " Pride is the mother hen under which all other sins are hatched."

Pride is not the base sin in the Garden of Eden, neither is self will. The base sin in the garden was disbelief.

God told Adam and Eve not to eat the fruit or they would surely die. Satan comes along and tells Eve, you will NOT surely die. In order for her to eat the fruit, she had to DISBELIEVE God. She had to DISBELIEVE that she would die, and she did, so she ate the fruit.

Disbelief IS the unforgivable sin. It is the sin that separates you from God. That is why Jesus says BELIEVE and you shall be saved.

BTW, I've had people say to me, Yeah, but she didn't die after she ate the fruit. Oh, she didn't? You don't see her walking around anywhere, do you? You know why? Because SHE'S DEAD.

One interpretation is that is is the exact opposite that caused sin.

So in Genesis, Adam and Eve were created to be like God. The serpent came and said they had to eat the apple to be like God. But wait, they're already like God, aren't they? The serpent tricked them into believing that they were not good enough and must do something (consume something) to be good enough.

That, in a very simplistic sense, is Original Sin. The temptation to believe that we are, in fact, not good enough as God has made us and that we require something else to fill the hole that only God (who is right within/around/in front of us) can fill.

How many times do we say through our words and actions, "God, you are not enough. I need more...." Money, attention, power, sex, mind-altering substances, whatever?

I think the reason for most sins in today's world is that everyone is too preoccupied with religion and trying to do the right thing, that everyone has lost sight of the true meaning of what religion is supposed to be about, and thus people err in their ways of living up to their certain beliefs and expectations.

I don't think its so much pride as it is the fact that we're humans who give in to temptation very easily. We think, "I deserve to have pleasure, what's wrong with it if I like doing it? Everyone else is doing it. I should be happy. Its not so bad."

We either believe its OK, or if we know its wrong we reason with ourselves until we give in.

All sin stems from our Selfishness and breaking the first commandment. It says we should have no other gods before God of the Bible. When we sin, we put aside God's ways, and do what we want. We put ourselves and our wants ahead of God.

Pride is one of the cause but it is not all the cause of sinning.
