Abraham was willing to sacrifice his first born son to the LORD (Genesis 22), but he also had faith that God would provide an animal instead of Isaac (Genesis 22:8). And God indeed did provide a ram and just before Abraham was to sacrifice his son the LORD stopped him. Thus demonstrating Abraham's faith in God's promise.

Judaeo Christian tradition would maintain that Abraham's utimate test was when God told him to sacrifice his son Issac. The child was his firstborn son with his wife Sarah.

After this "test" the covenant, previously established seems to be enhanced with the promise that Abraham's decendants will outnumber the stars in the heavens or sand at the sea shore.

For total accuracy, Abraham's first son was Ishmael. He was the son of Abraham and Hagar (his wife's Egyptian maidservant). I believe in Islam, Ishmael may be the son in the story.

I always found this story very bloodthirsty. In the context of the time, many other religions required the sacrifice of the first born so Abraham wasn't really doing something that unusual for his culture.

Rather than seeing this as a great act of faith, I prefer to see it as Abraham's epiphany...that Yaweh does not require this sacrfice. The story shows God intevening but I think this is a great "reform" of Abraham or the Hebrews who tell this story as one of their core parables. "What Would Abraham Do?"

God gave Sarah and Abraham a son named Isaac. Abraham's greatest trial was tested when God asked for Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham was just about to sacrifice Isaac when God sent an angel to stop him and provide a sheep for the sacrifice. Both Abraham and Job knew that God gives and God takes away, but God always restores at least twice over. We can always trust God.

By starting to sacrifice his son, Isaac for God, as God commanded him. This showed obedience. But of course God did not allow him to go through with it. God already saw Abraham's faith. It says "God saw Abraham's faith, and accepted him because of that faith" The sacrifice part was just to show Abraham that he was being obedient. Very few things are actually for God. Most of them are for us. God already knows our hearts, and what exactly will happen throughout our entire life.

What I think is beautiful is that, even before Jesus.. God accepted people because of their faith. Even though they were sinners to the core. We all are. But also, those old biblical people that had faith in God, had to wait until Jesus was sacrificed for our sins before they could go on to heaven after death. They were held in a good part of shaol that was separate from the bad area.

With love through Christ Jesus,

Dusty

I don't believe any Christian can demonstrate "perfect" faith...if we were able to do that we wouldn't need Jesus' saving grace. I think Abraham showed his faith by being willing to sacrifice his son, by denying his right to Egypt's throne and becoming a slave with God's people, by stepping up when God called him to lead his people out of Egypt, by wandering around in the wilderness for 40 years and having faith that God wiould bring his people into the promised land....just to name a few examples

Because when God told Abraham to take Isaac and kill him, he took Isaac out to do just that. What Abraham had faith in was that God was going to provide something else for him to offer up to Him, rather than his own son.

Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son, which showed great faith that God was real and had authority to raise him.

But I believe that we are also shown that he had perfect faith because the scriptures tell us that Abraham believed and that his salvation came from his faith. Galatians also testify s that Abraham had faith and through faith was saved.

Romans 4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter? 2If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. 3What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness."

Galatians 3:6 Consider Abraham: "He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." 7Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. 8The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: "All nations will be blessed through you." 9So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

We must remember that Abraham lived before Jesus, and so his faith was perfect in that he did not have scripture from His teachings or any personal experience.

Nodality: Infanticide? Abraham's son that was to be sacrificed was not an infant, but a child. Obviously you have never read the story. I think the correct word you are looking for is "filicide". And if you had any knowledge and common sense, the act of sacrifice did not happen. It was only a test. Does that make God perverted and evil? Absolutley not. And to tell you the truth! I think God can careless of what you think. Who do you think YOU are?!

Rom 4:1 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found?
Rom 4:2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath [whereof] to glory; but not before God.
Rom 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
Rom 4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
Rom 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Abraham showed that he had perfect faith by being willing to sacrifice his only son Issac.
