Some denominations do, some don't. It all depends on how they view advancement and knowledge itself.

There are two questions here. Christianity opposes science when it is used as a religion to promote evolution. Christianity doesn't oppose technology. We invite technology and use it all the time. The internet is one example.

Christianity in general has, for centuries been notoriously militant against the advances of science and technology, because every new discovery challenged the very fundamentals of what they previously had preaching as being true and accurate. A few centuries ago when the church had enormous power, it was deemed heretical to even suggest that the planet earth was NOT the center of the universe, or that it orbited around the sun, and not the sun around the earth.
Closer to our own time, when anesthesia was first discovered and put to use in medicine, the church made tremendous efforts to prevent its use to ease the pain of childbirth. Their argument:---- that it defied God's edict that because of the "sins" of Eve, women for all time should bring forth children in pain and suffering. It didn't take them long to realise they were never going to gain any support for that one LOL. There are hundreds of instances over the ages where religious leaders have attempted to stop the dissemination of information about new scientific discoveries, and to discredit them when news did get out. Thankfully in our day and age, not only have the heirarchies of leading religious denominations been stripped of their powers to punish, and even kill scientists who went against "church teachings", but the introduction of mass media, and the "Information Superhighway" that we call the Internet, has made it much more difficult for them to block news of new scientific discoveries. Organized Religion can, and does, of course, still get very vocal in protest and condemnation of anything it feels challenges, and threatens the veracity of some aspect of its teachings. Behind the scenes, there is no way for the public to know how many valid and important scientific discoveries, in the field of medicine especially, may have been put on hold because of some kind of coercive pressures by church leaders upon known hard-right government officials. We do know of one huge one, of course; stem cell research, where the President himself has been leading the charge to do everything possible to block its further progress.
But, no matter what, the good news is that once the train of any new scientific discovery or concept has left the station of the human mind, it will pick up steam. Some may throw rocks in its path, and try to slow it down; they may even manage to derail it for a while. But eventually that train will be on the move again, will gather momentum, and speed down the track to its destination, silencing those who fought to stop it from doing so.

Some of the wacky Christians oppose everything. But Christianity itself, NO. Most of the Christians I know are techies and gadget buffs. Some of us even have degrees in science and technology ;-)

Christians don't oppose science or technology. I oppose the evolution theory of Darwin. I strongly believe in creation by God.

God created science along with everything else. people are slowly catching up to science, but there is still so much we don't know or understand. but i think people assume they have science all figured out, and they don't ...it's way over our heads, some things, yes, man has learned and it's obvious they have it right. but the things out there that leave so much room for debate, and don't have concrete evidence to stand on, i feel is still inaccurate. scientist are in such a hurry to be the first to discover all the answers that they will let any little thing cloud their judgment, or start making things up, or they will believe anything so they can slap their name on it(Darwin). i feel so much is still inaccurate, but science doesn't want to see that so they just go with it. but there is no reason for Christianity to oppose real science. but sometimes it feels like some people look to science for everything to the point that they are blinded, it's almost like they trust in it so much, they practically worship it.

Dustin M, you are so clear-headed. Great response.
In terms of my own (less learned) answer, it seems to me that SOME Christians oppose science, but really only when it comes into conflict with what they believe. For example, there are the hard-cores who believe the Earth is less than 10,000 years old. They just plug their fingers in their ears and say "la la la" anytime you try to talk them out of it. But they're the extreme.
In general, I think Christians are OK with science and, like the rest of us, are EXTREMELY comfortable with technology when they need to be treated in the emergency room or want to spend some quality time on Yahoo!Answers defending their beliefs. :)
