Well, this is only my theory, but I'm sticking to it. LOL
I think the different foods for breakfast, lunch and supper food idea came about because of timing. Many people are in a rush in the morning, and need quick things for breakfast. Eggs cook quickly, so does toast, and cold cereal is very fast to get ready to eat.
At lunch time, many people have to eat away from home, either at work or school, therefore typical lunch foods are portable, like sandwiches.
Supper traditionally is when the whole family gathers, and time isn't such an issue, so foods that take longer to prepare are considered "normal" for supper.
I ate a chicken sandwich for breakfast yesterday, a couple bagels with lox, cream cheese and thinly sliced red onion for lunch, and for supper I had a chef's salad with ham, turkey hard boiled eggs, and every kind of cheese I could find in my refrigerator. Not exactly "traditional", but I was home all day and could eat what I wanted, when I wanted.
Today, I haven't eaten anything yet. My friend is coming in a little while and we're going to a new restaurant that's supposed to have fantastic Mexican food, and I want plenty of room in my tummy to old it all! :)
Along these same lines, I'd like to know what's so wrong with eating my dessert before my main course! When people see me do it, they have some smart alec coment usually. But, I figure that if I'm going to be too full for anything, and there's something wonderful for dessert, I'm going to eat that first. Once I was at a restaurant and ordered an entree that came with 3 sides for lunch. One of the sides I ordered was peach cobbler. The waitress didn't bring it with the rest of our orders, so I asked for it. She said I couldn't have it until I'd eaten the rest of my lunch. I thought she was kidding, but when I pressed her, she actually refused to bring it. I told her either she brought it right away, or we'd go eat someplace else. She brought it. So THERE!
Well, now that I've bored everyone silly, I'll stop sputtering. :D

My husband was a professional chef for 15 years. I was a cook for my large family and friends, and also at a Vietnamese Buddhist Monastery. Both of us actually LOVE having Chinese food ('leftovers' we calculated for from our favorite restaurant) for breakfast, or sandwiches ... and we sometimes like 'breakfast food' (even just a bowl of cereal) for lunch or dinner. We also think that some of our best 'breakfasts' have been pie (especially fresh peach pie) and ice cream for breakfast are REALLY GOOD EATING ... especially when we have a 'busy morning' planned. Evidently, some of us are 'hardwired' to eat only breakfast foods at breakfast time, only lunch foods (sandwiches, soup, etc.) at lunch time, and only 'dinner foods' (meat/potato/ veggie, or casseroles) at dinner time.
My husband and I are both 'weird' and we actually LOVE being weird ... and I guess we really never thought about 'what we like to eat at what time of day' as being another of our 'weirdnesses' ... but something went 'click' in my head when I read your questions. My first husband's mother LOVED the peach pie and ice cream for breakfast thing, too, and she was an artist. I'm a writer (also a psychologist) and my husband is a fine artist who works as a web developer. I wish there was a way I could find out your 'occupation' or your 'favorite thing' to do, because now I'm wondering if those who have an 'artistic streak' aren't also 'artistic' about our meals ... what we eat at what time of day ... so I think I'll have to 'ask my own question' to see if I can find out more ...

That's way too much thinking this early in the morning. Go back to bed and think about it later!
For what it's worth, I have cereal quite often for supper.
