Support for Windows98 ended in July 2006, so I think your friend is out of luck.

Microsoft finished supporting Win98 some time ago, however if you go to Windows Update you may still be able to get the updates until support stopped.
Alternatively browse the web as I know there are third party sites which will supply the updates you need.
This information applies only to Win98se. If its not second edition theres not a lot that can be done.
Its good to see that some of us are still sticking with a classic version of Windows.
Good Luck.

I have a Dell with 512MB of RAM. I run Windows 98. I just recently upgraded from 95. I try to stay about 15 years or so behind the current technology. The reason for this is because when the come out with new stuff...it isn't because the old stuff is bad. They just want you to spend money. The older stuff works just fine if you know how to use it.

You can't, Microsoft stopped releasing updates for Windows 98 a few years ago.
My advice would be to consider upgrading to a newer version of Windows or using a new Linux distro such as Xubuntu or Kubuntu.

Only at the Windows web site IF MS is still supporting it, which I do not believe that they are. Should be an archive though, but you'll have to search for the updates manually.

If you continue to have a problem, contact a store that sells used computers, or a computer repair shop. They sometimes offer out-of-date software for sale.
