Like all weight loss it all depends. There are three big ways to lose weight: 1. diet 2. exercise 3. diet and exercise. Obviously diet and exercise are the best way to lose weight and lose weight the fastest but it depends upon your motivation and how much you want to spend on healthy foods and time on exercise. Are you a girl or a boy, because for a girl you need to restrict your calorie intake to about 1200 to 1500 a day to lose weight. For a guy you need to eat about 1500 to 2000 calories a day to lose weight. But if you add exercise you can either eat more and still be in that weight loss range or you can quicken the rate of weight loss by eating less calories and exercising more. Notice though that eating less calories is not the same as eating less. Picking good choices can mean you eating the same but less calories. Cardio is the best way to burn calories, especially interval training.

Facts:
3500 calories = 1 pound
You must burn 3500 calories to lose 1 pound of fat
You must eat an excess of 3500 calories to gain 1 pound of fat or muscle
You can lose weight in three ways
Eating less calories
Burning more calories
or combining the two previous (preferred)
A 125 lb female would burn about 1500 calories in 1 day through normal activities. Therefore, this female could eat 1500 calories worth of food and not gain an ounce
A 200 lb male would burn about 2200 calories in 1 day through normal activities. This male could eat 2200 calories a day and not gain an ounce
Weight loss is most effective if done through a long gradual process. Do not try to significantly modify your eating habits, instead add simple exercises

This depends how much you actually weigh now, and how many calories you take in anyway. So in essence, you could burn a lot of calories but then take in even more.
