I run a daycare and one of the Moms just dropped her 2 toddlers and there is vomit in both of their carseats. Normally I would spray it off and wipe them up but this is really bad--completely soaked through the pad. One seat is an Eddie Bauer Toddler Seat and the other is a Cosco Alpha Omega Convertible. Does anyone know if taking the pads off and putting them in the washing machine would be ok? Gentle cycle? How about machine drying?

I always have to wash my children's carseats. We would travel sometimes and my younger one would get carsick and would vomit all over his. So yes it is safe to wash them and dry them. You could use the low heat if you like. That is very nice of you to do. At least the child will have a clean seat to sit back on. You might want to hint to the mother that carseats pads can come off and be washed. If she doesn't know how you can show her.

Notify the parent first.
Perhaps you can find the manual for the seats online...

I've machine-washed all of our kids' seat covers/pads without a problem. If you decide to wash them, make sure you let them air dry.

By the way, I think it is very nice that you want to clean the seats in the first place. Many daycare providers would have left that responsibility up to the parents.

Really can't answer this question without having the car seat manual. Some manufacturers specifically say to spot clean ONLY. Some of the ones that do allow machine washing, only allow the cover to lie flat to dry. Not following a manufacturer's directions could void the warranty on the seats.

I do know that you are to never put the harness straps in the washing machine or use strong detergent on them.

They are perfectly safe to go in the washer. Just make sure to read the tags if there are one if not put them on warm or cold water and they should be fine. I would also notify the mother that if this happens again she is responsible for washing the car seats.

Although what your suggesting is a very nice thing to do, I would check with the parent first.
