4 years ago, I got in an accident and had to be in a full body cast for 2 monthes, i was 11 at that time and all I wanted was a dog, I did a lot of time reserching them and I wanted either an Aussie, or a Sheltie. Finally, after 6 monthes I could walk again and we found a sheltie breeder, but she was willing to give us her 6 month year old boy charlie, he was a show dog, but was too shy and skitish. of course i took him, but its been a rough road with him. he listens when he wants to listen, thats most likely why she gave him away. and its not a hearing problem, he just only does the tricks if hes in the mood or if i have a treat. and when we go outside for me to play with him, he only runs around and plays with my for about 5 minutes, then he runs off and plays by himself chasing a squrirel. people said that if i put in half the time i did with charlie into a different dog, he wouldlove me unconditonally. i found an austalian breeder, and im going to send in a deposit soon.

charlie will love another dog in the house, but i'm thinking it might be hard on him, because i'll be spending so much time with the new aussie, since its so playful, and energetic. charlie rarely wants to do anything with me, but when my mom comes home, he jumps up and down and he would practically die for her. he listens to her and does a lot for her, but i'm the one that put in all the time and training. and don't say get obediant classes for charlie, as much as i would like to, the classes are an hour away, i can't get a drive, and i doubt that charlie will learn or want to learn anything, he so stubborn.

Sometimes dogs choose who is their owner,Maybe Charlie chose your mother. Does she feed him?? You can't force the dog to be yours. Wait for your new puppy, maybe playing with him will give Charlie the urge. I do advise you to FEED both dogs. They look at it as providing for them,so you become Alpha dog in their eyes.

The thing with dogs is that each like humans are different Charlie doesn't want to run around with you and he has taken a higher liking to you mother instead of you, not that he doesn't care for you all dogs show it different, just as with people dogs tend to get along better with different people... each has their own personality, don't worry about having to split the affection between two dogs you need a dog that will play with you, still give time with Charlie, don't ignore him completly just because you have a new dog, but I am sure if Charlie does what your mother says and does get the attention he needs from her, you having another dog and spending time with him would not be a problem.

Hi, Dan! If you introduce your new puppy carefully, and give your Sheltie plenty of time with you away from the new pup, you shouldn't have a problem. Ask the Aussie breeder if you can bring your Sheltie to visit when the pups are old enough, before bringing the Aussie home.

Are you thinking about giving up your Sheltie? Your question seems to be more about problems you're having with the Sheltie.

What's your point? Are you thinking about giving up the other dog? If so, you have no business getting another one.
