My friend just called. SAying she got back with her ex. (But she is dating her best friends brother - for a week) Her and her ex were together for 8 months. He smokes pot, but she does too. He's really emotional - doesnt let her have her own 'girls night out thing' and knows what say and she believes him. They we're on and off and still had sex after breaking up.
SO tell me... A guy like that.. What do you think of him. DO you think it'll last long? For how long? And Is he just using her now?

Sounds like the boyfriend is a manipulator and control freak, or maybe even an abuser. The relationship could last a long time... because your friend seems to have a psychological tendency toward destructive relationships. What happens in situations like this is that someone who perhaps has lower self-esteem or lacks self-respect or has an addictive personality (perhaps that is why she smokes pot) or something of that nature will be easily manipulated by a guy with an abusive or controlling personality. When they are together, he will likely treat her badly and manipulate her weaknesses, but when she breaks up with him or threatens to, he will treat her like an angel or make her feel like she couldn't do better. Often in situations like these, the woman will stay in the relationship long after it is worth it, because the man will convince her that she can't leave. The fact that she kept having sex with him after they did break up suggests that he continued to manipulate her, and the fact that she didn't completely break off contact with him is probably why she ended up going back. But think about this: why did they break up in the first place? Has the problem that caused that really changed?

Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot you can do about it. Perhaps talk to her and tell her how you feel about it, but even just doing that might result in your friendship being over. You can take that chance for her own good, or you can just do your best to be the best friend to her that you can be, and hope she'll come to you when the relationship turns sour again. Perhaps you could even google "Domestic Violence" and educate yourself on the signs and characteristics of abusive relationships. Not that the relationship will necessarily get violent, but the general characteristics of someone in a relationship like this is similar to the characteristics of someone in an abusive situation. Armed with your knowledge, you may be able to help her escape the grip of her man when she really needs someone to help. If you choose to be the friend, then just remember this: when they DO break up, probably the most important thing your friend can do is to completely and utterly cut off contact with the ex. That is what she did wrong this last time.

Good luck!

Definitely just using her and NO it will NEVER last! Relationships built on trust, honesty and commonality, as well as mutual respect and companionship, are the only ones that last. Pot smoking is no basis for a relationship!

Yeah the guy is a jerk and treats her bad. The thing is, there's nothing you can do about it. She just has to figure it out on her own, and the more you try to tell her the more she'll resent you.

It won't last long because eventually his irrational behavior and smooth talking will catch up to him. For most girls, this kind of thing starts to get old... She'll be looking for something new soon.

How's this answer : Butt out! Go find yourself a guy and leave your friend alone. If you don't like that type of guy, then find yourself someone different.
If the guy hurts your friend, then just be there to comfort her...
