Dumb, dumb, dumb. My kid and his friends had a band concert at a pavilion at a public park (all the bands were comprised of kids in their school.) They decided to charge enough to pay to rent the pavilion. My kid collected at the door, and got cited for a Summary Offense (no profit events permitted in the park). Rather than tell me, he just pled guilty and paid the citation thinking that it was like a parking ticket. He is majoring in prepharmacy-premed. I see that a Summary Offense is less than a misdemeanor, but is still a criminal offense. Could this affect his ability to get licensed in the future? We live in PA, but he wants to relocate to another state.

Really need to ask licensure boards about their specific requirements. Also, if there are no further charges, check state laws about expungement under these circumstances. A lawyer might be advisable for consultation.

Your kid took the blame for the group? I see what you mean, not too smart. Hopefully this will be a learning experience. Check with the licensing board, but I doubt a summary offense will cause any problem. It may need to be disclosed with an explanation, but it wouldn't keep him from being a lawyer.

In Illinois, only felonies will not allow you to be licensed as a pharmacist or doctor. I think he'll have no problems.

Sounds like your 18 year old took responsibility for his actions. I commend him for that. Many more would run to mom or dad for help... wait, is that why you wrote the question?
