actaully consider this before you just throw the "god is the way" stuff.
If I start with the mind first, we are currently using what 10% or so of our brain? combine that with all the various problems some people are born with, etc the human body is an amazing thing, but it is flawed.
now think about going to buy your new car, it's all nice and shinny and your talking to the saleman who tells you something like
"yup its a brilliant car, with this that and the other" it goes on you get to asking about the engine "ah it's an amazing thing, altho only 10% of the engine actually works"
lets face it you would not be buying a car where only a percentage of it works.
So if evolution is a hoax with all that rubbish called evidence, it means that we will not develop further than we are now, if this is the case, you have to admit that god made a flawed creation in us.

my mistake with the 10% thing then.
just remembered something I'd watched when I was younger about the brain wasn't mapped etc, maybe it was that they only understood what a percentage of the brain did,
still the basic question is still valid I think, we're not well designed creatures.
and for a few of the answers so far I have this to say;
so according to you "god" designed us to be crap...? but everything is still perfect?
How can that work? we can not be perfect and imperfect! and if a benevilant force designed us to suffer then he's a bit sick really.

uh, yeah.. there are arguments like that to be made. For example:
our backs are extremely prone to strain and injury. After all, we have the basic bone structure of all other mammals, but we twist our upper body away from it's default position (in a 90 degrees angle with the legs). Sure our hip joint is a bit different than that of other mammals, but not actually different enough. Our back makes strange curves, and those curves are prone do damage.
One thing I always feel a deity might, nay, would have done better is the knee. The knee is not a very good idea! I'm sure everybody knows somebody with knee problems. The thing is, once something goes wrong in it, it never really recovers. It's a very messy joint compared to the others. So if god designed us, why did he give us such poor knee joints?
BUT: that whole 10% of our brain thing is a myth I'm afraid... much like "Eskimo's have a hundred words for snow", it's the kind of thing that makes so much sense it should be true... but it's not:

we are not just using 10% of our brain, that's certainly a myth or a misunderstanding. perhaps at a given time, we're using 10%, but a second later we're using a *different* 10%. the brain is not like a computer with a constantly ticking CPU, it only does work when it's actually required. mind you there are other problems with the brain, perhaps the most obvious is the whole dying after a few minutes without oxygen thing. i think your general point that humans are not perfect is a good one.

not at all
If evolution is a hoax, then God did a brilliant job making, not only us but everything that lives.
Still, if evolution is a hoax than that means that God is placing a lot of evidence that would lead us to believe that evolution is real, and that placing would have to be on purpose. That would make God a liar and THAT is unacceptable.
Also, evolution is a much more complex beautiful process, and explain just how much more special all the creatures are

No never. I Waite and He always tells me, all I have to do is watch what happens around me and I will know what to do, therefore I have the answer without asking. The answer is obvious in the the task that He lays before me. So I do the task and I learn a little more about Him and a little more about myself becomes know-en to me and my Faith grows. I have not as yet found the grounds on which I can argue with God, about anything. It is not forbidden to ask "why". He loves us, and Is our Father One can talk to God as such.

What if this bad job God did with us was intentional? What if the fragile, mortal human body and an easily traumatised mind was designed by God to make us suffer (for some higher purpose??)

Actually, we use 100% of our brains. You can see this demonstrated in pet scans of the brain. Each part has different functions.
Having said that, the underlying point of the question is totally valid.
We are very poorly designed for the way we live.
We're very susceptible to back damage.
Women would die much of the time in childbirth without medical care.
Childbirth is ridiculously painful.
Our young are born totally dependent on their mothers.
Our eyesight is very poor compared to birds.
Our sense of smell is poor compared to dogs and many other animals.
We can't grow back limbs like many other creatures.
The list of faults goes on & on.
Yet everyday, christians carry on about how perfectly designed we are.

While I agree that if we were designed it could be called "incompetent design" or maybe even "malevolent design" (see the optical nerves/eye thing, or the many back problems people get), the 10% brain thing is a myth, see http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/10percnt.htm

We are lucky, we get to keep living. Every year or two, God kills off all the flu viruses and recreates them as a "different strain". I mean, that's what creationists believe, right?

We are only using 10% of what God gave us. Your car story should go this way. That beautiful car has a great engine. You only need to use 10% of it's power to make it go.

Evolution is not a hoax but it can be misrepresented. Obviously we are not born perfect but that doesn't mean that God isn't the ultimate designer and planner.
