A lot of the time when I am walking along the street, people heading towards me, who are walking in parallel with other people, don't move out of the way.

Frequently, this means I have to step into the road or go right across to the other side of the pavement, whereas all they need to do is fall back one pace, so they are not inline with the person they are walking with. Then I can get through.

Surely if they have the option of dropping back one space, so they can't walk next to the other person for just a few seconds, this is the fair thing to do?

Am I in the wrong? Or are people selfish gits?

I have a very simple solution when I see this coming.

I stop. I stand in place and wait.

They either run into me (an obviously rude thing to do and easy to respond to), or...

...they move out of the way.

Try it. Wakes them up.

Oh, I have noticed that so often. A couple of times I have made a game of it. See how many people I can force to move. Sometimes if I stand my ground they will move. But usually I have to move at the last minute or get steamrolled. It reminds of the Dr Suess story, the one where the two characters meet head on and neither one would move. They stood there and stood there with each passing season.

I HATE that! I run into this all the time because I live in a congested area, and I walk for exercise. I have actually walked right into people because they wouldn't move. Selfish I think.

The worse is when its two people in walkers or wheelchairs. They act like you are discriminating against them just because I want to use the sidewalk too.

You're not wrong. That actually annoys me a lot. People are so stupid. They probably don't even realize.

Argh.
