Go to the doctor now. The longer you wait the worse it is going to hurt when the doctor treats it.

Couple of things come to mind. You could have an ingrown toenail or nail infection of some kind, in which case you can soak in warm water with Epsom salt to relieve your pain a bit, but it may require antibiotics, just play it by ear, if it seems to help to be soaked and symptoms have eased in 2 days, you probably don't need a doctor. But, PLEASE don't lance it, like I saw that another answer wrote. That determination should always be left to a doctor, if not done properly it is sure to be infected.
Another thing that is very possible, is Gout. Gout is a type of arthritis/or shingles that believe it or not starts to show in the big toe first.
It is usually caused by a build up of Uric Acids, caused by a diet of rich foods, alcohol or alot of red meat. It can be eased by icing and elevating it. You can also help disperse the uric acid with black cherries believe it or not. You can drink the juice, usually concentrate is the best, or simply eating them.
Gout is very painful, so you may want to take some Tylenol Extra Strength to ease your pain a bit. If symptoms do not subside with in 2 days you should see a doctor who can prescribe something to help with the nerve pain it causes, usually something like Lyrica and pain medication.
Good Luck, you wouldn't think a big toe could hurt so much, huh!!!

chances are you have an ingrown toenail. they are quite painful and can last a few days. just be sure to keep it very clean and dont poke or prod at it. to alleviate the pain, you can place a hot compress on it for a couple of minutes at a time, a few times a day. just soak a washcloth of paper towel in hot - not scalding - water and gently press it onto the affected area. there are also topical treatments you can but from the drugstore, but ive always had luck in letting it run its course. this is assuming its an ingrown. if you think its something else, dont mess with it and see a doctor if you can. if not treated properly, things can just get worse....good luck!!

The best you can do, is lance the area that has pus in it, and let it drain. There will be pain involved, but not as much as if you don't do anything about it..

Put some antiseptic on it after you do (hydrogen peroxide is a good one) and bandage it up. (If it is cause by an ingrown toenail, you might want to see a doctor.)

It sounds like this toe could be infected. I would recommend seeing the doctor for further evaluation but in the mean time you can ask them about trying an icepack to see if that helps the pain til you can get in to see them.

Sounds like an ingrown toenail to me. You have to get that taken care of by a doctor right away. If you don't, the pain will get worse and worse and it won't heal on it's own.
