I know of a number crimes that haven't been reported, because people don't trust the police to do anything. I actually reported something myself and the police put the phone down.

prince_henry: Of course, your views are respected. But I am a simple man and I really don't think Labour have done much good at all. On the contrary, I think they have done a lot of bad. And as I said, for myself at least, there seems no point in reporting crime, because i know nothing will be done. FACT.

I do not believe them either. Most crimes are not reported because people feel it is a waste of time.
I have not forgotten trying to persuade a policeman that I wanted to report a bankers card as stolen which it was. He wanted to report it as lost in spite of a fraud. This cut down crime figures for the area

Crime is definitely on the increase, statistics can be made to say whatever the govt wants them to say.
Labour tell us Gun and Knife crime has fallen substantially yet every day there is a report in a newspaper or on the broadcast news of a teenager that has been knifed, and usually killed.Robbery has increased since the EU let the eastern European countries join and the Govt for failing to do something about the numbers of immigrants.
Sentences are too light for the majority of crimes and the judges and lawyers are guilty for this problem

It is not true to say whether or not crime is actually rising, the reasons being that there is no definitive statistical measure of crime and that even if there was there is no true like for like comparison.
My gut feeling, bolstered by my experience, is that things are no better or worse than they have ever been. However there are political gains to be made from ensuring that the voting public are fearful, Thatcher recognised fear as a vote winner and we've had moral panic after moral panic in the tabloids since

My van was broken into three times and my car once in two years. I only reported one incident, as doing so is usually a waste of time. I was offered counselling....!!!
That's why people don't report crime. It's a waste of time. The police can't be bothered. A couple of weeks ago, my motorbike was stolen. The police got it back in a few days...because its tax disc was stolen, and a traffic warden spotted it... and issued a ticket.. That's how it works these days.. The police are too tied up with paperwork to do their job. It's not their fault.... They don't like it either...

It is difficult to make contact with Police as there are systems in place that put the police officer further and further away from he who dares to report a crime. There is recent evidence to suggest crime particular violent crime is on the rise. I have often been fobbed off both in my work position and as a civilian. "The best way to get contact with Police is to speed past a traffic camera!" Quote from ex flying squad member! The favourite comment from the Police is.."If you don't report it we cant solve it"!

When phoning the police they are only going to give you a crime number anyway.
Far to busy on the roads with speed cameras and stopping little old ladies with their lunch in back packs

Crime is definately on the increase. Violent crime especially. Someone I know was held up with a knife in her shop yesterday for £200, and the robber apologised but said he was desperate for the money for drugs.
Cases in A&E of alchohol related injuries are also up since this stupid government introduced 24 hour drinking.

The government moved the goal posts to suit their figures
by changing the categories of certain crimes ie house burglary, car crimes, the police have no choice but follow what this goverment lays down and how they respond to them.

Of course it is rising all the time they just downgrade the offences so that they don't appear in the statistics, it's far more dangerous on the streets of most towns and cities than it was ten years ago, and there are many no go areas.
