I can never seem to make up my mind if I like them or not. Sometimes I think they're kool and others i just think it's such a stupid thing to do. I personally don't like the idea that it'd be on my skin every day for the rest of my life, I'd never get one, but do you like them? My dad says there's nothing worse in the world, if you were ment to have pictures on your body, you'd be born with them, same with piercings. hmmm, but I dunno

I am a 40 year old woman/wife/mother I have two tattoos and I treasure them dearly.
I have never regretted having them done, I have a beautiful peace dove with my daughter and husbands initial next to it.
I also have a yin/yang in blue and pink which I equally love.
As you said sometimes you think they are tacky sometimes you think they are kool.
That is the whole substance of life for me, yin and yang, without one there would be no other eg;
Like/dislike
love/hate
good/bad
happy/sad
I could go on and on but I will spare you.
Just my thoughts.
By the way I didn't get my tattoos until I was in my late 30's.

I would just say this (it is just common sense but I am amazed at how many people I have seen with the TACKIEST things put on them). I have 3 tattoos and love them but they are all very unique (something I came up with myself) and nobody else will ever have. I wouldn't get ANYTHING that is some sort of fad or sports team or anything (think of all the Dale Jr. fans that got a big red 8 tattooed on them and now he is changing teams and numbers etc.) No names other than your own or immediate family members (one of mine is initials done in a tribal way so that you can't tell that they are initials). I would also try and stay away from standard places to do something. Again, make it unique. There are tons of women with the little tattoo right above the waist on the middle of their back but they all look the same and EVERYONE has one there. Same with armbands. If you are going to do it, try and make it special that you won't see anywhere else and try different locations. Lastly, make your first one somewhat little and somewhere that isn't in plain view. That way, you can have it for a year or two and, if you regret it, it isn't something that will be in plain sight to everyone in the world and will lessen the regret. FYI, I split a tribal design that I made in half and put each half on each forearm (not very big) and the third is across my shoulder (starting on my back and arching over the joint to the front) and is the tribal design of my initials. I love them and have no regrets. This is all just personal opinions though because I see plenty of people with tattoos and think to myself "what in the hell were they thinking?" Anyhow, hope that helps a bit. Take care.

There are a lot of things that can make a person tacky - just having a tattoo doesn't put someone in that category. I've seen people in public wearing outfits that make me wonder if they own a mirror.....but all those things are subject to personal opinion anyway. What one person likes, others won't.
I'm not sure I really understand what you are asking. You can't lump every tattoo into being either tacky or not. If you have decided that you would never get one then what does it really matter? Obviously those of us who have them like them. Do I like every tattoo I see? No. But I love mine. I'm sure there are many people who see mine and wonder, "what was she thinking?" but do I care? No. Then again, I didn't even start getting them until I was 38 so I was at a very different stage of my life and picked art that is very different then what I might have gotten at 18.

Tough one??... SOme tattoos may apear Tacky but at the end of the day it is personal choice, The thing to remember is that a tattoo is for life. I have over 50 hours of work so far on my body and that is including a few cover up tattoos of things i rushed into when i was 17. the ink I jhave now is meaningful to me and took me along time to design. Never just go into a studio and pick the first thing that you see and like, think about it hard first cause it is with you forever.

No not always if you do it right tattoos can look pretty good. Some people have a real connection with there tats. They might represent something or remind them of something. In Japan tattoos are definately not considered tacky it sound yuck but when people die they have the skin taken away and put in museums my dad has a whole book of people with tattoos all over their body. Its really just a personal choice. UNLESS your underage! If you are going to get one you have to think really hard about it because if you don't end up loving it then thats to bad its staying.

Tackiness is in the eye of the beholder, usually.Everyone from dr,s ceo,s ,executives, military personel ,men and women, and yes even bikers have tattoos. Some people stereotype people who have tattoos and think only criminals and bikers have them.Very unfair of course. I knew of an airline stewardess who had to have hers removed to keep her job (which I think is unfair and narrow minded).A tattoo is a life experience and the tattoo usually has a personal deep meaning for the wearer of it.My advice is don,t get one until your in your 30,s approx.that way you are less inclined to change your mind of what it will be and you,ll be happier with your choice should you decide to get one. Some tattoos are really beautiful and can be very artistic.Shop around and decide what tattoo you would like on paper and what artist,s work you trust and would admire on your body. Health inspection certificate in the shop is a must for them to be in business.Don,t let a friend do it,you are more likely to be disappointed by the results, and it is riskier.

I LOVE tattoos. Especially if they are done well. Some are very tacky looking and I just think "why in the hell did that person want that on their body" But most of them time I think they are awesome. Tattoos are a way to express yourself. Of course it is not everyones cup of tea and I respect that. If you can't make up your mind weather or not you like them, then it is best not to get one. You don't want to put something on your body that you will end up regretting. It cost way too much to get one removed.

So many people base their judgement of tattoos after seeing some of the stupidest tattoos around. Of course it's going to be tacky if it is ugly and out of place.
It is impossible to answer this question because all tattoos are different on all different people.

It's just like how some people have ugly faces and other people have pretty faces, but everyone has a different idea of what is attractive.

I agree with what a lot of other contributors are saying, tattoos that mean something significant to the bearer are generally not tacky, while tattoos that have been done just to get some attention probably are. But it's not what I think that's important, it's what the individual involved thinks.

Some tattoos are tacky while others are real nice art work. Trust what you like and don't let others sway you either way. You will never be happy if you don't get one b/c of someone telling you it is tacky and on the other hand you will also not be happy if you get one b/c of someone telling you to and not really want it.
