honestly, one of the reasons that pilgrims came to the thirteen colonies(now the us) was for religious freedom. when europe was ruled by the church people got killed left and right for stupid things that ultimately never really mattered. also look at the salem witch trials where a lot of innocent people got killed for stupid things. and Im pretty sure that if the founding fathers didnt wanna mix religion with the constitution it was for a reason, although for some reason we have the bible in the courtroom before witnesses speak. also we've already gone to war for things that dont deal with religion, if the govnt was run by the church wed probably be in so many religious wars that wed be in even more debt

Id give more details but youll just B!TC# that its too long. so please lets leave religion out of government.

The short answer is that some people want to mix Religion and Government because neither by itself provides the power they crave.

The reason that oaths are administered on the Bible is that oaths need to be sworn on something that is sacred to the swearer. For most of the US, for most of our history, that's been the bible. But, I think that if we made Republicans swear on a stack of Stock Certificates and a BMV key, they might not break their oaths so often. I'm ok with the morning prayers in the House and Senate because it never hurts to remind lawmakers that SOMEBODY is watching even when there aren't a lot of C-span viewers.

Religious Rule has a long history, and it's always worked out badly for Joe Sixpack, no matter what the Religion is. The Religious wars of Europe were still fresh in everyone's memory--which seems to have been longer back then--and none of the Founders wanted that stuff here.

There are plenty of Religious wars going on in the Islamic World right now. Make Religion part of Government and we'll start seeing that sort of thing here.

This country was never intended to disregard religion and principles of religion from its foundation and structure. Only that it would not adopt as a national religion any specific church.

It is impossible to separate our beliefs (our religion) from our motives and hopes for the things around us.

So contrary to what you suggest, every single person voted into office and appointed to serve this nation should be doing and is expected by those who voted him in to act and make decisions according to the dictates of his conscience or what will make our nation better and bring us a safer soceity in the long run. Tradition, faith, and heritage -- words that describe this nation and epitomize the strength of it, because our fore fathers used these factors in building this nation, under God, not above him.

Instead of opposing religion today, this nation should be protecting and helping all religions progress and affect the people, according to the dictates of our consciences. But that freedom ends the second my fist hits your nose...

If you turn it around and look at it this way. It seems that the founding Fathers did not want the Government to be able to make laws to govern the Churches. I don't think that they meant to keep Prayer out of the Government. Because they prayed for God to lead them when they made up the Constitution. Don't think they meant to not take God with them when they make the laws and etc.

The real wonder is that the founders of our country (US) were modern enough to make sure no theocracy was ever established. Of course, the liberals who today complain about the "religious right" and it's influence praised the religious ties to the "civil rights" era. They really only oppose christian influence that disagrees with their political views.

Because they want the power to impose their religous beliefs on everyone, which in my opinion is the most unamerican thing you can do. trying to do something against the constitution is tyranny isnt it? and isnt tyranny punishable by death?

because then maybe politicians and govt wont be so tempted, or be so corrupt. maybe they will then be straight up with the public...but even then, so...It is their opinion...let them think...it is easier said than done...evenn though thats been done...well, when things go wrong, try something new...thats what theyre doing...their opinion
