...or do you have a healthy sceptical attitude?

I hope you can all see why I'm posting this in 'religion':
the 'horoscopes' section was full .... ;)

I'm sceptical, but I'm not sure I'm sceptical enough.
But if I was totally sceptical, how could I acquire any information at all?

A lot of stuff slipped into my head when I was younger and didn't know to question much. I've had to eject several long-established ideas and "truths". A lot of them slip in without them explicitly being told.

Simple example:
It was obvious to one of my generation, especially from films, that the US cavalry were the "good guys" and that the indians (sic) were the "bad guys". Hmm.

What do you mean the horoscope section was full?? There's always room for one more sceptic, and it's never full -coward. To accept what you are told without thinking is like committing suicide. Hitler ring a bell? Or, "This new medicine is safe, the FDA approved it. Or this meat is safe, yada, yada, yada. Always "Question Reality, " because everyone's is different. If it's in "religion" I can understand. Because if you're from my generation, you grew up believing if you said your prayers every night, were good, did your best in school and did your chores and made sure your puppy was (if you were lucky enough to have one) walked, fed, watered and taken care of, respected your parents, went to catechism class, confession, you too would live a life like Mayberry Rfd or Happy Days. NOT! Reminds me of that song. by Billy Joel..........

youve got a point. back then people refused to acknowledge that the earth revolved around the sun.

i still believe in god, but I dont take my religion that seriously and dont listen to what I supposedly can and can not do. some things make sense like dont kill and dont cheat, some dont like the use of condoms and pills being unholy or not having sex before marriage or even a couple living together unmarried being considered a sin.

last time i checked, being married doesnt mean the couple is taking the relationship seriously. if you marry just to have sex, then youre not taking marriage seriously which is worse. and bringing an unwanted child into the world is worse than preventing one from being created.

I agree with some things and disagree with others, so nope I do not take things from religion at face value

I mistrust most things, especially those that come from disreputable sources.
I find that the more comprehensive and reliable a source has been, the more I am able to trust them in the future.
I feel like just telling me just a part of the truth is sometimes worse than outright lying to me.
The concept of the 'whole truth' really appeals to me.

I take everything I hear with a grain of salt (the "healthy skepticism" you referred to). If I want to know more about that subject/idea, then I do personal research on it. I read books, search credible websites, and ask people I know who follow that particular teaching/religion/idea. That way, I gain a better understanding through mulitple channels, and it gives me time to come up with my own conclusions.

No.
I'm a skeptic.
I think the world would be a better place if everyone followed this simple rule (but not without thinking about it first, of course).

I don't. I trust science first and for matters on anything else, I decide for myself what to believe and it may take years for me to decide something. If you told me the flying spaghetti monster was taking over the world tomorrow, I might just doubt you.

People tell me stuff without thinking all the time. I just nod and pretend to listen.
