I found out that if your child is under 4 years old, he/she is entittled to a free smartstart book pack from the library. All you need to do is phone your library to make sure they have some in stock, and then take with you your childs red health record book. My daughter got hers yestarday, she got crayola crayons, colouring book, 2 free thick cardboard books, a library card ect.....All of this is free.

There are 3 ages

0 - 12 months
18 - 30 months
36 - 48 months

You are also supposed to be able to get them from your health visitors - they are excellent packs by the way, and not always the same things in each one.

it's a great pack my health visitor gave me one for my 2 year old , thats all my little girl wants to do is sit with mummy and read which is no bad thing

too bad they don't do this in the U.S. except for kids who speak a foreign language...
Very nice for you to post this to anyone it can help, reading to and with your kids is sooo important..
