Sorry, JS Said this himself. History of the Church Vol. 6, p. 408-412

Come on! ye prosecutors! ye false swearers! All hell, boil over! Ye burning mountains, roll down your lava! for I will come out on the top at last. I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him; but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet. You know my daily walk and conversation. I am in the bosom of a virtuous and good people. How I do love to hear the wolves howl! When they can get rid of me, the devil will also go.

It seems to me you are intentionally distorting the quote. He was talking about "keeping the church together". The word "mankind" wasn't even mentioned.

D&C 135:3

Says that the only idividual to do more for the salvation other is Jesus Christ

Jesus far and away did more than Joseph but this scripture claims Joseph is second in line (a distant second)

And the person who wrote it was John Taylor who had just witnessed Joseph and Hyrum Smith being murdered by a mob of people.

"3 Joseph Smith, the Prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, save Jesus only, for the salvation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it. In the short space of twenty years, he has brought forth the Book of Mormon, which he translated by the gift and power of God, and has been the means of publishing it on two continents; has sent the fulness of the everlasting gospel, which it contained, to the four quarters of the earth; has brought forth the revelations and commandments which compose this book of Doctrine and Covenants, and many other wise documents and instructions for the benefit of the children of men; gathered many thousands of the Latter-day Saints, founded a great city, and left a fame and name that cannot be slain. He lived great, and he died great in the eyes of God and his people; and like most of the Lord’s anointed in ancient times, has sealed his mission and his works with his own blood; and so has his brother Hyrum. In life they were not divided, and in death they were not separated! "

Joseph Smith claimed that he had a vision in 1829, at which time John the Baptist appeared to him as a heavenly messenger and conferred upon him and his associate, Oliver Cowdery, the priesthood of Aaron, after which they baptized one another secretly. This claim was made despite the fact that the Bible tells that the Aaronic priesthood was changed when Jesus Christ brought the Mosaic law to an end. This vision and a subsequent one of three apostles are believed to have given these two men authority to restore the church of Christ.

Um, for one thing that was John Taylor who said something LIKE that. Recheck your Doctrine and Covenants. Section 135. And while you're there you might as well get your scripture reading done for the day. Might help you....
You need to rephrase that since it is incorrect (especially if you got that from a twisted source....) He did not say that Joseph Smith did more for mankind that Jesus Christ, he said....wait let me get the exact words... Oh,, and Joseph Smith never said anything like that. I don't know where you get your weird sayings, but I'm sure they are erroneous and comes from and anti-mormon mind.
Here we go, verse 3

"Joseph Smith, the prophet and Seer of the Lord, has done more, SAVE Jesus only, for the savation of men in this world, than any other man that ever lived in it." (emphasis added:)

Then it goes on to say what he did, including bringing forth the fulness of the gospel in the BoM, and especially restoring the light of gospel and the priesthood power to the earth once more. And YES I do believe that he did great things for the savation of men. Of course Jesus Christ is did the ultimate thing for us, the atonement.
Please, recheck your sources before you try to put us down and tell people false ideas.

The quote you provided does not say what you asked in the question. Keeping a church together and doing more for mankind are not the same thing.

That's NOT what he said. He said he had more to BOAST of, and that he KEPT THE CHURCH TOGETHER better than even Christ did. And maybe he was wrong to boast, but he technically was right.

Christ even said that some would come who would do greater works than He.

John 14: 12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

I don't agree at all that he did a lot of good for mankind
.
But, that passage really gives you a good idea what kind of egomaniac he was. I also think it pretty well answers your question about his narcissism.
