There must have been a reason to describe Heaven
in the ways that it has been described in scriptures
because it WAS described in scriptures !!
And, ----a God that rewards the life of upright behavior with torture to infinity ? I don't think so --- not MY God !! Serve who you will -- for whatever the reasons -- but, as for me and MY house -- we will serve the Lord !!

Heaven is the dwelling place of God almighty. Read the Bible Rev.14:1-3: "I saw, and look! Jesus Christ standing upon the Mount Zion (in heaven; see Hebrews 12:22-24, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads...And they are singing as if a new song...and no one was able to master that song but the hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been bought from the earth." So this tells us that only 144,000 were chosen for heavenly life. But what about the other people here on earth.
Matt. 5:5: "Happy are the mild-tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth."
Rev.21:1-4: "I saw a new heaven and a new earth...I heard a loud voice from the throne say: "look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor out cry nor pain be anymore. "The former things have passed away."
As for Hell the Bible teaches us that it is the commom grave of mankind. Eternal destruction. Eccl. 9:5, 10: "The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all... All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdon in hell (the grave). Ps. 146:4 "His spirit goes out, he goes back to the ground; in that day his thoughts do perish.
In many non-Christian religions it is thaught that hell is a place inhabited by demons and where the wicked, after death, are punished (and some believe that this is with torment). If the dead are conscious of nothing, they oviously feel no pain. I hope this has been beneficial to you. And yes I would still do the right thing to be by God's side. : = )

I don't do the right thing to go to heaven. I do the right thing because I love God. "Would I want to go to hell because God was there," No .

You mean you cannot imagine a God who would not be where you wanted to be? Want of imagination, I would say. Frankly, if God is anything like what the fundamentalists and Bible-thumpers say he is, I fail to see why anyone would want to worship him!
Anyone see the movie "Zardoz?" And by the way, if anyone has seen that out on DVD, please email me about it.

What is with your Che Guevara picture? He was a murderer. Do you respect that? What kind of person lives in a free and open society like this one and shows honor to a communist who murdered countless people in order to advance his awful beliefs? Why is it communists want to live in the USA and criticize it? I'm sure you'd be welcome in one of the "workers' paradise" countries.

That would mean the bible has it bacwards, that would be terrible wouldn't it? I think it is correct in it's current form. As for what heaven is like, we can only speculate.

I personally believe it was a way to stop crime. Whats worse punishment then burning in fire your entire life? If your good, you get rewarded like a cute kid with a nice report card. Your bad, you burn...
Its all mental.....
