By all accounts He should have been dead just from the beating He was given. He did have to have someone finish carrying His cross for Him because he was too weak. He identified his mother and one of his disciples because he knew they would need each other...He was also not a man to us He was God in Flesh so He probably handled the Crucifixion differently than just a mere mortal would. Many times the beatings that were administered by the Romans would be so deep that they would expose the spine...not to mention the chunks of flesh that were removed. The weapon they used is commonly referred to as a cat of nine tails....which at the end of each piece of leather was a spike/ barb that would rip out flesh. They would go from the upper back of the person down their thighs and there rear ends. This was not a punishment that was to be taken lightly. He also prayed for His enemies at the end...so yeah, maybe He was Coherent but then again He also rose from the dead on the third day, not many men come back from the dead either...good thing He was and is God.

The answer right above me is pretty good.

Isa 52:14 As many were astonished at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:

Joh 10:17 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

Because of the fact that Jesus was not only man; he was God. The Romans could have stripped off all of his flesh and drained all his blood.....but how can you kill God? Answer: You can't. Neither the beating, nor the cross, nor the crown of thorns KILLED him. He died as a matter of choice; actually, I have heard a doctor say in reference to the fact that his side was pierced by the spear; and out poured blood AND water, Jesus died from an overloaded and broken heart out of love for you; he laid down his life willingly, and he took it up again. He died only AFTER he said he was finished.

And yes, he was coherent.

The crown of thorns was enough to kill anyone. He probably received more than 40 (official) lashes. Herod probably had him lashed as well. This alone would have killed an ordinary man. He was beaten until he was nearly unrecognizable.
He probably lost enough blood to die of anemia on the way.

Romans were very ruthless people. They are considered to be that time period's atheists. They did not have any problem humiliating Jesus then.

The Bible record is accurate.
