I agree with TartCartRider that big bass are smart and not likly to be caught by just any angler.

I'd say there's at least a few in Lake Dixon (Southern, Ca) alone. As long as it's still alive, there's one documented that's at least 25-1 that was caught and released there last year. There have been a few others caught at Dixon close to 20 lb. There's also probably several more in Mexico, and possibly a few in TX and FL. I wouldn't be surprised if the record is broken within the next decade. There are some huge fish being caugh in CA and there are several lakes in Mexico, that are not very old yet, that were stocked with FL strain largemouth specifically to be trophy bass lakes. Of course people said the same thing about Lake Fork 20 years ago and it never has happened yet.

During the 40's they were going to put in a casino across the resaca from where I bought a house fairly recently. They stocked the resaca with bass back then. My neighbor caught a largemouth bass that beat the Texas record and ate it. He was injured and not working and hungry. We got in a water rights fight here and a couple of farmers that had waterrights pulled a fast one and transferred the resaca water behind my house to another branch and my side went dry and killed all of the fish. It was a major fish kill and so sad. We fought legally and got our resaca back but not the bass. I used to throw out a line and in the morning I would usually have a channel cat ready to clean and eat. No more. . .We did get it restocked-finally-but it will be a long time for those record sized fish.

I think that in the states that do have Large Mouth Bass which I believe is around 45-48 there are probably 25-30 states where a record can still be caught...the ones that were released are larger (if alive still) but big bass are smart...they've seen it all and know a lot about fishermans tactics and whatnot...there are pleanty of record size bass to catch in many states.

I think that would be just a total guess to say how many but I would bet there are several out there just waiting for the right bait!
