Yes, I had to take a step down in salary to get a relevant job too, but it did work out in the long run.

I didn't change jobs, I was working full time in accounting software support and got a degree in accounting which didn't do any thing for my job, a couple of months later I passed the CPA exam but that didn't do anything either. I applied with software development in the tax department but they gave my resume to the accounting software developer who had known me for years and he hired me as a tax analyst/programmer so I got a 27.5% raise. It was about 10 more years before I got out of software and back to accounting but I think the degree helped. Now I do shipyard accounting.

I graduated with a BA in Business and am working in a call center in web support. I hate it and it has nothing to do with mymajor. Its a shame you go to college for 4 years and can't get a job in your field.

Lotta crappo stuff ,and it continued .I had high aspirations and then.I was told I was over qualified for many jobs. Sometimes its good to keep your education a little silent. Some places won't hire you because they know you will split in an instant. Keep this in mind.Make them think you are going to be with them *forever*. Play the game .Best of luck!
