It depends on the hiring managers and/or HR's work load. If they're going through an EEOC audit, it's going to take a while, possibly weeks. If they're having a major sale or doing inventory, it'll probably be more time. If they're just sailing along with a decent number of employees and the manager isn't overworked like above, you might get a call back within days.
It's ok to ask the manager's name and when you call or drop by in a week or so, ask for the manager. Ask the manager if they received your application and if there are any openings that you could fill. Let the manager know why you want to work there & how you could benefit the business.

They may never call at all if they already found someone or it could be before you even get home. They may have found someone then they didn't work out so might call you later. Check back with them in a week after your application to let them know you are still interested.

It depends. I usually wait two days and then I call -them- back to ask about the status of my application. Then your name will be fresh in their minds and they might actually look for your app.

Sometimes they dont even bother to reply....get used to it and back yourself to start your own business up oneday..... working to make other people rich is bullshit.
