Wikipedia has this statement regarding Lucas' religious beliefs:
Lucas was born and raised in a strongly Methodist family. After inserting religious themes into Star Wars he would eventually come to identify strongly with the Eastern religious philosophies he studied and incorporated into his movies, which were a major inspiration for "the Force." Lucas eventually came to state that his religion was "Buddhist Methodist."
However, I'm not sure what that would mean in relation to seeing Luke Skywalker as a messiah. The idea that the messiah that saves everyone is the child of an evil power sort of sounds like a vaguely gnostic doctrine though.

I don't think he was implying anything about the "messiah" . Both are fictional stories that have many similarities with other mythologies.
"Another influence in Lucas's creation of Star Wars was the writings of Joseph Campbell. Campbell's work explored the supposed common meanings, structures, and purposes of the world's mythologies. Lucas has stated that his intention was to create in Star Wars a "modern mythology" based on Campbell's work. The original Star Wars film, episode IV, for example, closely followed the archetypal "hero's journey," as described in Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces. The motif of the hero's journey can also be seen across Episodes IV-VI, following Luke's progression and across Episodes I-VI, following the journey of Anakin Skywalker."

Nothing. Lucas stated that he wanted the Star wars galaxy to have a religion but that Christianity wouldn't do. So he created something more encompassing and well rounded to suit his galaxy. It also had to do with the battle between good and bad, light and dark. It had nothing to do with Christianity, though he himself is Christian.

? No Lucas did not create star wars with religion in mind, he just wanted to make the bad guys ugly so that the audience and those who read his book would identify with the "good guys".
But it failed, I feel more akin with Darth Vader, AKA Anakin.

What does the Jedi have to do with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ? Star Wars is a stupid, science fictional movie. And it was poorly made to boot.
