Once they were saved had this eager hunger for all the scriptures, all the understanding, to be closer to Jesus, "like you can't exhaust it". I had been told before that it would happen like that if you were truely saved, but I had no idea.

There is a simple answer: the more you get to know Jesus, the more you fall in live with Him. This increases your desire to please him by doing God's will. How do we know Him?
We read His Word and put it into practice. The more we do that, the more we become like Him. This means that we are being transformed into His image to the glory of the Father.
This enables you and me to serve God in spirit and in truth, shining like stars amongst a corrupt and depraved generation!
Yes, nobody can come to know Jesus and not want to change...He has that effect on you. He fills you with a hunger for His Word and the Spirit enlightens your mind when you read it, giving you understanding and insight into God.
This gives you the desire to become more than a Christian [or the modern day interpretation thereoff] you want to be a true follower of Jesus and a true worshipper of God. You want to live for His pleasure and HIs purpose!
There is an old song or chorus we used to sing: "the best Book to read is the Bible...!
Amazing, isn't it? God is AWESOME!

It's not always like that. But remember you will have to make the choice to do these things also.
Jesus will draw you to Himself. Pray and be open to listening and receiving. It will happen.
Don't let people dictate to you if you are really saved. If you confessed your sinful life, repented towards change, believed that God raised Jesus from the dead and asked Jesus to live in your life and guide your life then you are saved.
Pray. Read. Have faith.
Start with the book of John, if you aren't sure where to start. If you don't have a clue what's going on, consider getting a Bible Commentary and Concordance. They will help tell you what a passage is about or where to find verses that contain certain words or subject matter.
I will be praying for you.
Never forget- Jesus loves you!

All should respond that way. But a complacency does kick in, unfortunately.
Are you just saved? Cool. Praise God! Do you really the angels were singing a mighty chorus at that moment?
Don't let anyone quench your fire or zeal.

As you grow in your Christian walk you will later see things in fresher prespectives. The history of the Bible never changes, the laws do not change, and God's grace and love do not change. How you can apply the Bible's lessons to your life grows with you!
Happy Reading.........

that is true it was with me God put a fire in me to read and study his word and taugh me how to pray through the Holy Spirit and that was one of the best things was to get involved with the spirit of God, It taught me more about Jesus because it bares witness with him.
