I know this..lol, but will I have to wait however long after having it done before I can smoke? I can go without having one, but I was just curious.

I have to answer your question in 2 parts.
First of all, your dentist recommended scaling and root planning because you have gum disease or periodontal disease which is caused by the build up of tarter and plaque below and above the gum. So to maintain your gum health the treatment is to remove all that tarter and plaque on your teeth.
As far as smoking, it is bad because it can make the gum disease worse, but no one can really stop you from smoking, so there is not a real answer to when you can smoke again. As a dental provider, we would encourage you to stop.

for a root planning porocedure, like any other surgical procedure, i suggest that you stops smoking for at least 2 weeks before and 3-4 weeks after the treatment? why?

here's why? smoking doesnt necessarily cook your gums, howwver smoking does hinder proper oxigenation of your gums in turn making your gums pale and grayish, and in some cases dry and easily get infected with lesions.

the reason for all those is that smoking alters the salivary components as saliva is the main substance that wets the gums, and smoking cease the blood vessels in transporting sufficient blood to the necesary part of your teeth including the gums.

for meantime you can use nicotine patch or nicotine substitute to offer you relief for the craving.

HELLO,
WITH ROOT PLANNING THE TISSUES WILL BECOME SOMEWHAT LACERATED.
THE SMOKING MAKES IT HARDER FOR THE TISSUES TO HEAL.
THE FACT THAT YOU NEEDED SCALING AND ROOT PLANNING IN THE FIRST PLACE HAS MUCH TO DO WITH THE END RESULT OF SMOKING.
DID YOU EVER WONDER ABOUT CURED HAM OR SOKED FISH?
IT'S COOKED BY THE SMOKE. THE SAME THING HAPPENS WHEN YOU SMOKE, BUT AT A VERY SLOW DEGREE.
