having to deal with ANY religious dogma, how would I go about it?

THATS THE BEAUTY OF IT !

The biggest lesson we can learn from the life of Christ is that organized religion stinks! They were the ones who crucified Him! All we have to do is go into our room and close the door and pray to him . Talk to Him like He is our friend. Then get a normal Bible written in plain English and let His Spirit lead us. Jesus came to set us free from religion. If we believe in Him we are saved. He will be back for us someday and we will be with Him forever. AMEN.

First you need to realize that the real purpose of dogma or doctrine is to move you away from dogmatic religious and social positions into a living relationship with Jesus Christ. The idea is not to get a creed or dogma down pat; or join the right bunch and then go sell the program to somebody else.

To follow Jesus Christ, He must first call you. If he has you will find the drive in your heart to seek contact. You will have to shake off a few things. Kinda leave the old religious boy friends and girl friends behind; for an eternal love affair with someone who first loved you and was always the lover of your soul.

While free to attend any; I would not consider joining any Christian religious groups; because none of them can assure the relationship you need. Rather seek out the writings of people who touched something beyond the average. Stick with the King James Bible of 1611; as almost every modern translation has been twisted to Gnostic teaching in some 900 key versus.

Pick up a copy of The Immitation of Christ by Thomas a' Kempis; and the Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee. Buy yourself a copy of the mini series Jesus of Nazareth with Robert Powell from1977. All 6.16 hours of it.

Start with Hebrews 11:6. This deals with two beliefs, which are just ideas you must be willing to act upon. Faith in Heb. 11:1 is more akin to heart felt intuition. Without faith it is impossible to please God. You exercise belief to make contact. Faith is required after you yield to His touch and hear a word from him.

Be deligent in your efforts. Stay after it until you get what you need. Listen, stay humble. Ask for help if you feel the need. If you are inclined to follow Jesus: I pray he catches you by his power and grace. Once God apprehends you it is easy to follow!

Dogma is simply defined as "a system of principles or tenets." You might compare it to driving inbetween the white and yellow lines on a road. Or following directions on the back of a prescription. The rules are there not to inhibit us, but to keep us safe and keep others safe.

Although it has a bad name, dogma could be looked at the same way. Christianity has certain "tenents" or Truths (capital T) about Jesus that, if you were to lose, you would no longer be able to say you were following a real person who actually walked the earth and said and did certain things. You would then simply be following a figment of your imagination that you made up to suit yourself. The Bible calls that idolatry.

The key, if you are truly seeking who Jesus really is, is to read your Bible, see it as truth, and follow Christ. However, we must not step outside the "boundaries" that have been set by scholars much smarter than we are working tirelessly over thousands of years. There is no reason to throw out the Truths they have uncovered, but always check them with the Bible before you simply accept and believe them.

I pray that helps you in some way.

That would depend on what you personally consider Religious Dogma. Do you consider it religious Dogma to do everything Christ commanded? Or are you speaking of the commadments of men that are taught as traditions? In the second case Christ spoke out about teaching the traditions of men as commadments from God...

Reading the Bible and doing what Christ speaks of helps, but there are several warnings about separating ourself from the flock. He said his followers would be one shepard, one flock... this cannot happen with sheep walking about willy nilly, with no leadership and Christ was known as the fine Shepherd, a fine leader of the flock.

If you are just wanting to go your own path, then you are following the inclination of Adam, and Eve, you should search out people who not only teach from the Bible, but also answer your questions from the Bible, and not their own thinking. And do EVERYTHING that God through Jesus Christ commanded them which does incude the Door to Door work of disciple making.

Go to the website www.watchtower.org and ask for the book "What Does the Bible REALLY Teach?".

I vote for Micheal C for best answer.
Morgasm, I say go look @ his profile, I am.
That' show I found this Q.
What he says makes sense.

I started reading w/ a little pocket size Bible.
It's starts at the Christian-Greek scriptures,
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,
are a simple place to start.
Acts and Romans follow,
it's quite easy to understand.
Read at least an hour a day.
Pray to the true God.
It's Important that you know who you are praying to; no?
Ask For the God of Abraham, to hear your prayers.
Call on the God and Father of Jesus Christ.

You'd just read what you could (the bible mostly but other documents are said to talk about him too) and see what he said. Then you'd follow his directions.

That may not turn out so well, depending on what you can get your hands on and if you take it literally or not. There are a lot of contradictions, and sometimes he can be very violent and intolerant.

If you mean you want to do what people usually think of Jesus as, a kind loving fellow, then just be nice to people and try to promote peace, justice, and equality. But then I don't know if you'll be taken seriously or accomplish anything.

I say just leave the Jesus behind and do what you think is right.

I personally suggest first and formost getting an idea of a source to insight that you can trust. The book the case for Christ outlines What historically evidence there is that the Bible is true. Dont listen to someone elses opinion. test for yourself. I think I you first are able to see that there is a multitude of reasons to trust the Bible over any other philosophy or idea as being Gods word to his creation. After you have settled the answer of what source to trust, go from there. Meaning that is if after you come to an understanding that the Bible is true then follow it. If someone trys to tell you something or believe something that God states is not true then run. Try your best to make your life fall in line with what is truth and you can't go wrong. This way You dont have to pay any heed to what someone else's philosophy is. The only one that you can trust to not lead you astray is the one who made you. If God states this is the way then it is best to trust him and not try to find someone elses path and hope they are right

Religious dogma can certainly get in the way can't it!?

Read the Bible and talk to Him. All you have to do to follow Jesus is to have a loving relationship with Him.

So how do you have a relationship with Him? Just like you do with anyone else: you talk to Him (pray) and listen for His answer (read His Word).

As time goes on, and as the Holy Spirit leads, you will grow in your relationship with Him, just like you do with other people (you can see with your eyes) who are your friends.

You would find yourself a NON-DENOMINATIONAL church. Their teachings come straight from the bible with no religious dogma or made up rituals etc etc. You also need to consult the Holy Spirit to bring you to the right church and that means visiting a few churches until the Holy Spirit leads to the right one. And everything that the Pastor says, that is new to you, you need to investigate further by filtering it through the bible.

Pray and read the Bible. Ask HIM to show you how, then read starting with the Gospel of John and then read Matthew, Mark and Luke. Get a red letter edition and pay special attention to the words of Christ. If you don't understand or don't believe what you read, ask God to make it clear to you. Really mean it.
