It doesn't really matter...Alprazolam, and Xanax are the same thing! I used to take that years ago..

It's the same thing.
However, the brand name stuff is likely to be more consistent with how much active ingredients are in each pill. The generic pills are more likely to vary slightly in strength from one pill to the next. It's doubtful that it's going to matter very much one way or the other. The inactive or inert ingredients are the stuff that gives the color and holds the pills together, but it has no real medication value.
The difference is because brand name medication tends to be manufactured in smaller amounts while generic medications is often manufactured on a larger scale.
Unless your doctor thinks it's very important that you have the brand name, it shouldn't matter.
If it was something like diabetes medication where the exact amount is very important I think it would matter a lot more than it would for something like Xanax.
I take generic Paroxetene, and I can't tell the difference from name brand Paxil except one costs more than the other.

There is an absolute difference!!
If you need Xanax and have a prescription, fight for the actual XANAX. Any doctor will tell you they are up to 20% more effective and these generics are loaded with "fillers."
They do have the same active ingredient, Alprazolam, but your question is which is better.
The answer is the brand name, XANAX.

Personally I don't like any generic medicines. Too many of them are made abroad and actually do not meet the standards that they should. I have had a lot of problems with generic medicines. The name brand will always cost you a lot more. You can try the generic and see if it works. If it doesn't you can always switch to the real stuff if money is an issue.

Depending on the manufacturer it DOES matter. The only generic so far that I have had that works as well as the name brand is Greenstone, AND as of this writing it is very hard to find. I found a local Mom and Pop based pharmacy that can still and will special order it but most of your big retailer pharmacies have to follow corp law which is go with whom ever is the cheapest.

Generic works just as well as the name brand.
The only difference is the name brand will cost you more!

I don't think there is any difference as long as it it's purchased from a reputable pharmacy...in other words, not online!
