God created life and only God can take life away.

Well, just about all spiritual practices decry suicide because it is prematurely ending a life, and if the lessons that soul is meant to learn haven't been learnt then they are coming back to learn them all over again, so it's a pretty big waste to do so, yes?

If you've ever had the miserable experience of watching someone you love dearly, die slowly, you would not decry suicide. Euthanasia is performed for the sake of mercy on dogs, yet people are not allowed to make this decision for themselves because laws based on religious beliefs prevent them from so doing. It's pathetic.

This is a good question.
I'd like to have the option to take my own life if I was in too much pain.
On the other hand, so far at least, strong emotions come & go and I'd hate to kill myself over something that won't matter 5 years from now.
I have a hard time thinking God will never forgive me if I did.
I have a friend who thinks that if you kill yourself, you get reborn EXACTLY back into the SAME SITUATION that you were in when you killed yourself.
Kind of like the movie GroundHog Day, NO ESCAPE buddy!

I'll answer your question but from a little different angle. Having had a close family member commit suicide, I cannot describe the devastation is can cause to the loved ones left behind. It takes years to heal.

Life is amazing. I am personally against suicide, but I support the freedom of individuals to control (and sadly, end) their own lives if they choose. Especially in the case of painful death, which could be avoided.

P.S. I am an atheist. I am just happy that out of billions of possibilities in this universe, I exist. I want to hold on to this life for as long as possible, and I don't need to be religious to hold this view.

Because committing suicide is to despair from the mercy of God. And to despair from the mercy of God is basically saying that you no longer believe in God--so you aren't really a religious person if you commit suicide.

Because Heaven is supposed to be the best thing ever, and since you only go there when you die, they decided to stop people from speeding ahead by saying that life is cool (But dieing is cooler)

Because life is precious, the body is just as precious and sacred as the spirit.
