1 Peter 3:18-20 (New King James Version)
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us[a] to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, 20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited[b] in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water.

Did Jesus go preach to them in the past or in the spirit world? Why does this mean, "spirits in prison who formerly were disobedient"?
Did they obey at a later time? If they were already dead, wasn't it too late to obey? Is this just a metaphor? Any thoughts here?

a million Peter 3:19 and in his non secular life he went and preached to the imprisoned spirits. 20 those have been the spirits of people who had no longer obeyed God whilst he waited patiently in the process the days that Noah grow to be development his boat. The few human beings interior the boat 8 in all have been stored by way of the water, 21 which grow to be an emblem pointing to baptism, which now saves you. it particularly is no longer the showering off of actual dirt, however the promise made to God from a good experience of right and incorrect. It saves you by way of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has long gone to heaven and is on the nicely suited fringe of God, ruling over all angels and heavenly government and powers.

He taught those in the spirit world. Those who disobeyed a prophet of God (Noah) All souls who lived contrary to God's word. Was it too late... no
If you read in 1 Corinthians 15 you'll also read of an ordinance for those who have passed on. Since the deceased no longer have bodies they can't become baptized. And if part of Christ's teaching was... get baptized and receive the Holy Ghost. If they have no body how do they do that? By vicarious work for them. The living would be baptized for the dead and the dead could either accept this or deny it.

This is just my take, what I think personally ok?

Those born before the flood were closer to Adam's time and all the spiritual line of Adam from Abel to Noah and there is also a line of the ungodly line after Cain's descendants.

Then there comes a time where they got mixed - the Godly line have intermarraige with the ungoldly line, and that's the time of Noah's who got the message and the mission to warn them of God's righteousness and His judgement of bring a flood if they do not repent. I believes more directing at the Godly line to repoent than the ungodly ones as God knows their hearts will be more and more wicked and sensual and have no place for God and His truth.
I believes Noah may have even preach Christ as the Jesus the Messiah who will come as the Lamb of God to take away their sins, But they did not believes SO JESUS WENT TO THESE PEOPLE IN HELL TO CONFIRMED NOAH'S TEACHING RECEIVED BY FAITH.
Just like in our time we are also to believe by faith. I am sure Jesus will be preach to all those who do not believed and are now found in hades - the Bible says where can we hide from you? even if we makes our abode in hades- your presence will be found there too! And it's the holy and righteous and holy presence of God that makes it so tormenting for those lost souls who rejected HIM as their Messiah and Saviour then the fire present there!

I think I am correct and it makes sense to me and my common sense tells me I'm right!

He taught in the Spirit prison (between Earth and Heaven you could say).
Everyone will have the opportunity to know Jesus and the truth, whether in this life or the next. Obviously it would be much easier with a body than without.

Dude! You rock, I been looking all over for just such a passage...from my perspective (and I'll have to do some more reading) off the top of my head but it was not those who were "formerly" disobedient but "spirits" (Angels) that were previously banished -- so to speak -- no, not those who fell from grace and became "Demons" Its a long story.

Yes, He visited them in the spirit world. I take "once disobedient" as they were and had become converted and taught in the spirit world.

In scripture, the word spirit is sometimes used to describe "human" spirit as in just a "person",it doesn't mean "Spirit" as in the Holy Spirit"
