Religious people can't keep to themselves. They need to convince other people they are right and therefore, better than the other people. They also cannot keep to themselves because they are insecure. If they were confident, secure people, they would not need to express their views and ask God for hand-me-outs. It's exactly like when confident people don't brag because they don't need to impress anyone, whereas insecure people do need to brag to gain attention.

I will agree with keeping religious beliefs private. I am an atheist and I would keep my own views personal if not for the constant preaching and government intrusion from a particular branch of Christianity into my life.
Also some components of religion hurt people (like objecting to condom use in HIV ravaged Africa), and I stand up for particular morals.
But in my day-to-day life, I stay respectful and tolerant of other people, and I hope others will do the same, if nothing more than to keep the peace and co-exist harmoniously.

I don't know about that. I'm somewhat agnostic, so I have an easy time not talking about my religious beliefs unless somebody actually asks. However, I can imagine that if I had absolute faith that I knew the truth and it was very important, what with being the Meaning Of Life and all, I'd have a hard time keeping it to myself. I would want to make sure everybody else believed it too.

Well, obviously some people do truly seek spiritual truth, within themselves. Obviously not all people do. Sure, people should be honest within themselves, and seek out what they really believe.
No, we shouldn't keep our beliefs to ourselves, or how would any of us ever learn? I'm thankful for anyone who willingly shares their inner feelings and beliefs, provided they do this from a basis of love and respect.
Matt: LOL good point. No I do not. My Dad believed in a malevolent God. My Mum's firmest belief is in being tolerant (everything else is subject to change). I am a Mormon... who also happens to believe in truth in many other places, also. (Actually, that is a tenet of the Mormon religion... truth everywhere... find it through the Holy Ghost... inner guide.)

Because some people don't know how to find what they are looking for...the problem arises when you try to push people to believe how you believe when one should merely point out the facts.
When people ask me what I believe; I tell them...but they gotta make up their own minds.

Yes, all can know Him personally and it to that intent that God says, "And you shall seek Me with all you heart , soul , spirit and mind and I will be found of you."
We are created after His image and likeness and we all have the propensity and if we are sincere and pure in our heart and yearn to know Him no matter what our present state of affair is, we can still find God as HE SPEAKS WITH A STILL SMALL VOICE OR RATHER FROM A WORDLESS WORD IN OUR HEART. No matter what nationality, tribes races or time we live in. - All can know Him; who only reveal to those who diligently seek HIM !
Are You yearning and seeking HIM ?
If you're not then it will be His mercy if He does indeed reveal Himself to you as He knows your heart more than you yourself.
So stop being religious as the first criteria is a good start.!

i don't believe in religion, i believe in spirituality. religion was originally used to teach people how to be spiritual but people have their own agendas and some found that they had power if they controlled religion. i don't believe in blind faith either. i believe in faith with reason. i do believe in a higher power but i don't believe that certain people are special because THEY say God has chosen them over the rest of us. i believe that God loves us all equally.

I am not religious and I think that Satan wants us to keep quiet about Jesus. I refuse to do that. I learn about God through His written Word, the Bible and I tell others about Jesus, if they are willing to hear.
Revelation 22:17 tells us that the bride (Christians) and the Holy Spirit say come ! This is your invitation. So won't you please come to Jesus?
