The first sentence is logical, and the second gives direction.
Sadly, the direction is ignored by a great many of those who profess to be Muslim and mistreat, even maltreat, the women in their lives. Equality of men and women is a western philosophy that many scorn and ridicule while others quietly disobey the direction.

From the fact that so few Muslim men both have and show true respect for women, and truly consider them their equals, and by this failure show disrespect for the cited direction given by the Prophet, it is unavoidably obvious that a huge number of those who pretend to follow the words of the Prophet are irreligious hypocrites.

What those of Islam have seemed to forget or perhaps just ignore is the equality of woman in the real world. Christianity is slowly accepting the truth of equality of woman in all things including the clergy and the guiding clergy. Most Pagans have always accepted the equality of women in religion.

What's that got to do with being a Christian or an atheist. I suppose it is also possible to give nice quotes from Jesus, or Buddha, or some Chinese philosopher.

I am a Christian and it sounds to me like he is saying that you need to treat your women(wives) with love. Much like Jesus taught that the woman is to the Man as the Church is to Christ. Thanks and have a great day!!
