Heyo. The checkbox next to a song on iTunes determines if the song will be played. If it is checked, the song will always play when iTunes gets to it. If it is unchecked, iTunes will not play the song unless you click to play it yourself. Good Luck.

When you want to play music on Itunes while using your computer you can check the boxes by the song, and when one song ends, it will automatically advance to the next song that has a check beside it. Basically, if there are songs that you listen to more than others, you can check those songs and you wont ever have to use any buttons on your computer to advance to the next song, your songs will just keep playing until it reaches the bottom of the list. I use this all the time.

changing groups of songs to the same artist
putting those songs onto your ipod
pretty much selecting a bunch of songs to perform the same action
