This is a fundamental debate amongst believers. My suggestion: DON'T GET CAUGHT UP IN IT BECAUSE IT'S POINTLESS and will always spark an argument with strong adherents on each side.
As for me, I believe it's 100% true. It's God's Word revealing Him to us. Read the texts, search out the meaning behind them with a good Bible teacher, and learn how to properly apply them to your life. That's what's important, and not the endless (though probably thoughtful) discussion that nobody will win about whether it's literal or not.

The bible is filled with great stories and was written by good story tellers. People who take the bible 100% obviously arent educated in literature or religious theories.
Lets go back more than 2000 years ago and look at the story of adam and eve for an example. 99% of the worlds population was illiterate and uneducated. they also had the IQ of a 9 year old. When they would ask educated people( who were usually the religious teachers) where their origins came from the story of adam and eve would help explain in ways they could understand it. The majority of the time gossples were told orally too.
So to answer your question the bible isnt 100% true but in a historical sense it is more or less 20%fact. I say the bible is 20% fact, because it points out empires and people that did exhisted but it only speaks of them from a biased point of view.
When i hear people who believe the bible is 100%fact it makes me sad because that person has been so lazy he hasnt researched things out side of the gospel.

I think you have to...the alternative is that, as you say, some of the stories are either metaphors or corrupted, so who gets to choose which ones are true and which ones are just "nice stories." You didn't mention it, but the parting of the Red Sea...there are chariot wheels and spears in the middle of the Red Sea today! By scientific reasoning parting the Red Sea is impossible, but then why is there a bunch of stuff there? People living hundreds of year - 2 theories I have hear 1. - People needed to live long lives to speed up the process of populating the earth. 2. - Since the earth was so "pure" in the beginning the human body did not encounter as many pollutants, thus allowing his body to live a longer life. Basically I feel that if we can figure out everything God did, then we have brought ourselves up to His level. As a baby there was no possible way you could figure out how your parents knew every time you woke-up, but as you grew older you realized they had a video baby monitor that showed your crib. May God richly bless you! <><

Adam and Eve really did exist and so does the fallen angel named satan. But we all do have an inner evil as well.
As for the stories, many of the stories told by Jesus were parables for our learning. Some are historical fact. Others are still yet to be seen but will be.

I believe that the Bible is in fact 100% literal. There are many reasons to feel this way. If you do a Google video search for "CSE Seminar", there are a lot of scriptural and scientific reasons to believe this way. CSE stands for Christian Science Evangelism and the videos are of a man named Kent Hovind who is very educated on the subject.
Yes, Adam and Eve really existed and yes, unfortunately, satan exists as well.

Most of the story's are both. They are very real but when you read into them and study them you will find a way deeper meaning than the people who even lived knew they were representing.

The stories in the Bible are just that -- stories. They were made up to use as teaching aids for a people who could not read or write, but who learned easily through storytelling. No, Adam and Eve didn't exist. They're a creation myth, every culture has one. There isn't any "Satan" either, just a fable made up to frighten children.

I think it can very well be symbolic and Not literal like for example in the beginning story can be metaphoric of the human mind but I think it can also be literal but I think there are quite a few metaphoric examples but some can be literal...ask God when you get there I have no idea.

Its mostly metaphor and symbolism very often representing something greater, but it conveys literal meaning as well. The important thing to remember is that its open to interpretation so don't allow yourself to get caught up in the dogma and tradition that has been created from it.

It depends on the story really,... when they're metaphoric, the text says so but every story does have a deeper meaning but it wont contradict the face value.
