Symptoms of early or mild dehydration include:
flushed face
extreme thirst, more than normal or unable to drink
dry, warm skin
cannot pass urine or reduced amounts, dark, yellow
dizziness made worse when you are standing
weakness
cramping in the arms and legs
crying with few or no tears
sleepy or irritable
unwell
headaches
dry mouth, dry tongue; with thick saliva.
In severe dehydration, these effects become more pronounced and the patient may develop evidence of hypovolaemic shock, including: diminished consciousness, lack of urine output, cool moist extremities, a rapid and feeble pulse (the radial pulse may be undetectable), low or undetectable blood pressure, and peripheral cyanosis. Death follows soon if rehydration is not started quickly.
Symptoms of moderate to severe dehydration include:
low blood pressure
fainting
severe muscle contractions in the arms, legs, stomach, and back
convulsions
a bloated stomach
heart failure
sunken fontanelle - soft spot on a infants head
sunken dry eyes, with few or no tears
skin loses its firmness and looks wrinkled
lack of elasticity of the skin (when a bit of skin lifted up stays folded and takes a long time to go back to its normal position)
rapid and deep breathing - faster than normal
fast, weak pulse

usually if you feel thirsty then you are already dehydrated. symptoms can include the obvious dry mouth, lips, thirst, but also headaches, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Soda and caffeine (as you already know) cause dehydration and should be limited. the amount really depends on the person and their lifestyle; an active person will need more (probably around9-10 glasses a day) whereas a more sedetary person may only need 6. body size and health issues are also taken into perspective; a smaller person doesn't really need as much, whereas larger ppl typically do need more to sustain good health.

The general symptoms of dehydration are; Thirst, dry mouth & tongue, chapped lips, dark colored urine, fatigue, dry skin, muscle cramps, rapid pulse, heartbeat & breathing, sunken eyes, Light- headedness...
The amount of water the average person needs top drink a day varies and is truly dependent on the needs of the individual (climate they live in, level of activity, etc.,)..
The consensus is that the average person loses about ten cups of fluid per day (1 cup=8oz)..but also takes in about four cups of fluid from food, leaving a need to drink only six glasses to make up the difference, a bit short of the recommended 8-10 glasses per day...you also do not have to drink water, with the exception of alcohol laced drinks..anything that is a liquid will hydrate you..
Just listen to your body..if you are thirsty it usually means you need to replenish your fluids..so drink it up! your body will tell u!

one of the first signs of dehydration is when you feel like you need a drink..
when your throat gets dry and you cough??
you should drink 2 litres of water a day to keep your fluids up and even more if your working out a lot. i suggest just carry around a drink bottle everyday to help..
but dont drink too much...i know people who were being stupid and seeing who could drink the most.,.. they both went to hospital because their body started absorbing all the water.. and it went to the brain and they got knocked out..
both in serious and critical conditions ... although you'd probly never drink that amount of water without relising.
to be healthy your urine is supposed to be clear.. thats from drinking enough water so if you dont drink enough yours will bee heaps yellow.. try keep it clear =]
good luck and be hydrated..take care xxxx

Dehydration: Clinical manifestations include acute weight loss, decrease skin turgor(pinch skin and it stays pinched for longer than 3 seconds), decreased urine output, weak rapid heart rate, flattened neck veins, increased temperature, thirst, anorexia, nausea, muscle weakness, and cramps. Fluid intake per day should be 2500-3000ml.

Dehydration may be detecte by looking at the color of patients urine.Howmuch water people need to drink varies from people to people and it also depends on environment that he lives and amount of physical duties he does that causes him to sweat.Water leaves our bodies by sweating and urinating.People who live in tropical /warm climate are required to drink lots of water.
A person himself is the best who can determine how much water his body needs. He can refer to color of urine and try to drink as much as water to keep the color clear.Although the clear color may indicate disfunction of liver.Drinking too much water can cause all sort of problems such as High blood pressure.People with kidney/bladder stone are required to keep as much as water a day to keep their urine clear.Remember drinking too much water may also cause of illness.
