Stand firm in your resolve. If you give in even once it will be more difficult to try again to take a stand. Examine the request and decide if you will be able to help or not. If not, explain that you are unable to at this time.
If you have not been asking for reimbursement, most people should be able to pay you back. Let anyone you help know that you expect to be paid back, and failure to do so will mean no further help from you. And then stick with that!!!

I have had the same problem, I couldn't say no. That word just wasn't in my vocabulary. My husband however, is opposite. So he told me some proverb, which makes sense really and that was, "Give them a fish, feed them for a day. Teach them to fish, feed them for life."

I was always afraid that it would be cruel and selfish if I didn't share $$ what I had, but the more I gave, the more they asked and it never stopped, until my husband begged me to just try it, so I did. They finally stopped and now do very well on their own. Which made them have more pride in themselves and we are able to be proud of them. We also have been able to build our own savings account back up.

Another tid bit get a D.A.R.E. t-shirt, preferrably one with "Just say NO!!!" in the biggest letters you can find and wear when they come over.

It's always good to help family, when you can, but you must think of yourself. The best way to really help your family is to help yourself. Show them your bank statement of 90 cent and keep your finance a secret will you make a deposit. If you can, get P.O. Box and have your bank statements sent there. I know it sound drastic, but you have your entire life ahead of you. God speed

Tell them no and be firm.

You are right in the fact that you need to get on your own two feet and enter the world yourself.

Good luck.

Tell them that you would like to help out, but you don't have the money to.

Tell them you don't have it. They won't respect you any more or any less if you don't give it to them than if you did. Actually, they may respect you more if you don't and you stand firm. People don't respect someone they use.
