I know it is a dumb question. However, are there non-christians who understand and are fluent in christianese, or can I safely say Christians have truly invented a new language of their own?

when someone says they will pray for you, they are basically saying you are an idiot.

Actually, this is not a dumb question. It is a warning call to all Christians who converse or witness to another person. Churches too should heed your words. When we develop a language we isolate those that do not understand it.

When I went on a mission trip we were encouraged to write out our testimony and not use "Christianese." It is harder than one might suspect.

I have also heard that bulletins in Church should avoid abbreviations and other such things that makes the visitor feel out of place.

Good question. I do not know if you meant to be snipe or not but I will star you anyways.

Well, you could say that. The Bible says that man does not 'naturally' understand the things of God. Unless a person is enlightened by the Holy Spirit he/she cannot understand a lot of spiritual things.
Also when a person becomes a Christian, words like faith, love, sin, mercy, grace, etc. take on new meaning and significance that the 'people of the world' could not understand.
So the answer to your question is:
Yes

Well, some Christians speak a language not understood by anyone but God. And some have a Gift of tongues that has to be interpreted by another with the Gift of interpretation. I don't think that is probably what you are referring to, however. If you haven't read the Bible, you may not understand certain things they say. My advise if you are really interested...read the Bible.

As with any special interest group, they are going to have their own lingo. The people who understand the lingo are the people who are exposed to it. There are non Christians who understand Christian terminology, just as there are people who are not Seinfeld fans who know what "sponge worthy" means.

Yes, that is part of cult teachings. If you aren't in the cult you won't understand the "holy message."

If you meant horrible spelling and grammar, sadly that exists no matter what religion or non-religion.

Humans love jargon. It creates in-group solidarity and a feeling of community.

LOL @ Patrick's answer . . . in the South we say "bless his/her/your heart" and it means exactly the same thing. :-)

There are a lot of "catchphrases" and "catchwords" typical of the "born again" crowd.
