A good book i would recommend is Hibbler 6th edition Mechanics of Materials and another good one of the same title is by Madhukar Vable

I am confused. Are you taking a course in engineering mechanics or a course to take an exam for a licensed engineer? Either way, the instructor usually has a book in mind. Given enough time, you can try to get it thru half.com or something like that. Not given the time, you are stuck with the school bookstore or a past student.

I like Beer-Johnston 5th edition, it was my text in college, its a classic, I bought the 3rd edition with solutions manual online to practice. I even found the manual for the 5th edition. Avoid Hibbeler, they drop new editions every other year, but never fix the errors. I bet you can find cheap copies of it on ebay....
