Truth is elusive and may not even exist. A good video you can rent on the subject is "What the Bleep Do We Know?"

Bamboo shoots under the fingernails. (just kidding)
Once there was an old man who was accused by a teenage neighbor girl of molesting her and leaving her pregnant. Now this happened a couple of thousand years ago, so the laws were a little different. He was ordered by the town to take the girl in and take care of her and the baby for the rest of their lives.
When the sentence was handed down, the old man was told what he had to do because of what happened to the girl. The only thing the old man said was, "Is this so?"
He took the girl in and life went on - but after 15 years, the girl finally admitted she lied, and that the old man was innocent and had nothing to do with what happened. The town told him he no longer had to care for the girl or the baby, and the old man said, "Is this so?"

Besides logic and evidence, there really is no way of understanding something. Logic and evidence are very broad categories including perception, experimentation, insight and the logical conclusions drawn from stated methods.

Experimentation. Though by using an experiment you would have had to use logic to set it up and it will yield evidence so you're not really using a separate tool. I still feel it's a valid answer to your question though.
Good luck!

Well, actually logic and evidence will take you to the facts, not necessarily the truth, as truth is subjective and personal.

The truth is not a thing to obtain. The truth is a person. Jesus said I am the truth.

What truth? Truth is often subjective. It all depends on the subject matter.

Testing. Repeatable testing. Although that technically evidence waiting to happen.

you assume there is absolute 'truth' to be found? new knowledge will always alter our imperfect perception of reality. I find science with it's skeptical protocols to be most effective for testing claims proposed as truth. *as a scientist*
