So far I haven't been able to find an answer and the obvious solution is to ask an inker. I plan to when I have time. But, as far as cover-ups - I know that you can't just cover up any tattoo with any other one - but, is it possible to alter a portion of a tattoo. Not necessarily cover the whole thing up? I see what it is and it isn't complex or anything and I'm thinking there's a 50-50 chance it will work for me.

if you had posted a picture, perhaps i would've been able to answer this question with more specific details to your current situation. since i cannot see it, i can only guess and give you general information. atleast you know that not any tattoo can just be covered up with anything. i meet a lot of customers who come in to the shop and tell me they want their tattoo covered up with something they had in mind, that most of the time will just not work. if you talk to a good artist, he can help you come up with an idea that will work for the both of you. most artists will want to be into the piece that they are doing, but of course you have to like it too, it's going on your body, and hey, you don't want to get another cover up, right? as far as just manipulating or adding onto a tattoo, it's very possible. but again, i don't know what you have so i can't really tell you all the possibilities. one challange with this can be matching up the styles if you go to a different artist. a lot of times in these situations, i have to completely go back over the orignal tattoo before adding to it, if the style of art, or the quality is just not up to par as far as what the customer wants. that way it will all match after i am done with it. so your best bet is like you said, go into a good shop and ask an artist. ask a few if you have to. just be picky and go for the one that has the best ideas for you. good luck with that.

Cover ups are a pain in the ****. i rushed into my forst 2 tattoos that are now covered. The 1 was so big the only way to cover it was with a solid black tribal design, the other was pretty small on my upper arm but due to the colours on it i ended up having a full japanese style Geisha half sleeve. Basically it all depends on the style of the original work and the colours of it.

Good luck

It really depends on what it is, letters can be altered to look like other things or other letters, and it depends on the size of the tattoo, you dont really want it just looking like a small black or blue blob, and at the same time it will be hard to change the look of a tattoo if its a large dark colored tattoo. Either draw up what you have yourself, or get the artist to do it, then using tracing paper, play with it, if you have reasonable success, then the artist will have some success too.

I actually had a cover up done. If you want to see it , let me know and i will send you the link. It really depends on your current tattoo and waht you want to cover it up with. If you want to alter a part of the tattoo then that shouldnt be a problem. Do you have a pictue of it?

it all depends on the colour of the tat you need a darker colour to cover the tat up! i had my tatto covered with black roses it looks really good and don't look like a cover up! if you give a tattoo artist an idea of what you want maybe he can draw it on or something, that's what mine did. And ye i think you can get a part of it covered but again it all depends on the colour of the tat

it's hard to say without knowing exactly what you are talking about but in some instances it would be possible to alter a tattoo but it all depends on what is already there and what you want done with it. if you posted a picture it would help.

Yes, try on concealer, you can hide tattoos, just like we ladies try to hide a burn mark, a scar or a bruise. Good luck.
