Along that same line of thinking - it's also possible that NO religion has gotten it "right" yet...
It doesn't matter WHAT you have faith in - only that you HAVE faith...

A theory has to have a backing of factual information. Since there's no definitive proof of any sort of God, your question can only be answered with, "No. What you propose has never been a theory."
Not every religion has one God. The ancient Greeks, for example, had many. Certain Native American Indian tribes also had multiple Gods, or "Spirits." Still other religions believe in an energy source that we're all a part of. So the statement itself (that all religions are essentially a different take on the one true God) has to be labeled as either false or misinformed.
There are simply different religions. Which is fitting, since we have all sorts of different people who live among us.

The whole cosmic manifestation follows the law of relativity, The Vedas instruct us that knowledge must always be considered in terms of deça-käla-pätra. Deça means "circumstances," käla means "time," and pätra means "the object, person or place. They may have different instruction and ritual one another and people like to change things, but the essence in all religions one and that is to love God.

There are several beliefs that all stem from the same story of creation and have many similar stories and parables. I know that Native Americans have several stories that are directly from the Bible. Adam and Eve, the Great Flood, etc. It is entirely possible and probable that all mono-theistic religions are worshiping the same Deity, the names in all actuality mean nothing.

When hypothesizing and coming up with a theory and an argument to prove the point, you should at least make sure you understand what you are talking about.
Buddhists do not worship Buddha, and Buddha, was not and will never be a god...
He was a teacher.

Buddha is a teacher, not a god.
Some religions have zero gods, others one, others two, others three or more. Some religions threaten eternal torture if you switch to a different one.
They're all different nonsensical stories; there are zero real gods.
