You pray to God in Jesus' name and you can ask Him anything without it being selfish.

Pray to God in Jesus' name (John 14; 13, 14). Now that He sits at the right hand of the Father, He is in the position of mediator and high priest for us (Heb. 10:19; Eph. 2: 8).

Jesus set the example of how we ought to pray in Matt. 6: 9-13. If we use this example, it seems that we don't necessarily have to pray for specifics. In fact, later on in the same chapter, in vv. 32, 33, He says that our heavenly father is well aware of our needs. He says that the important thing is that we seek first the kingdom and these things will be given us.

Other verses agree, such as the one in James that tells us that the prayer of the righteous availeth much. So, it is evidently more important to approach God with the right attitude and heart condition than worrying about the exact words we will use to speak to him.

I don't think you sound ignorant; I think you're very brave to talk about this with everyone. It sounds like you love God and pray with a very sincere heart, and that's what is most important. It's not selfish to pray for specific things, just pray from your heart. Pray to God, and in Jesus' name. God bless.

You don't need to be part of a religion. When you pray, do what feels right for you. You can pray to God or Jesus or both. I think it is okay to ask God for things just as long as you can accept and realize you may not get what you want but instead get what you need.

Read Matthew 6:9-13. Jesus says, "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven...'" Jesus is clearly instructing us to pray to The Father.

I think God wants us to pray for specific things. Paul says in Ephesians 6:18, "And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests." Also, Matthew 7:11 says, "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!" This does not mean to continually ask God for material things but it means to seek out His will and He will bless you.

One more thing...prayer is just talking to God. The Bible says to pray without ceasing. It doesn't have to be a formal, on-your- knees type thing all of the time. God is always thrilled to hear from you and to receive your praises. Just always be aware of the Father and stay in touch with Him.

If you pray to Jesus God will hear you, if you pray to God Jesus will hear you. Just pray to the Father in the name of Jesus and you will be doing the right thing. Whether God is a trinity or a spirit, He will hear you because He knows who you are and He loves you. I don't think God thinks that if you pray for specific things it is selfish, because He wants you to pray specifically. Try making sure what you ask is righteous though and not against His word (the bible) so that when you see your righteous desires come to pass, you will recognize God's hand in it.

Jesus is not only the Son of God, He is also The Word of God made flesh. When you pray to either, you are STILL praying to God.
It's like, how can you pray to God's word, and not be praying to Him at the same time?

I pray about everything. Even when I am feeling selfish, I pray. Even when complaining, I pray. I pray all the time, but I pray especially for other people. This prayer I know God answers. It says to pray without ceasing.

Pray to God and only God.

Its not selfish to ask for specific things unless your making a deal with God. like saying: I will go to church three times a week if I get the job I want.

That would be selfish.

God bless.
