In my head when I pray, I envision a throne and the Lord sitting there is all His majesty... a warm atmosphere, lots red and orange tones.
I begin my prayer with "Father God I come into your presence"... and it's always the same picture in my mind.
You don't need to pray just when you are alone and quiet.. you can pay anywhere, in your car on the bus, as you think of prayer needs and blessings... you can pray with your eyes open! :O Yes.. I pray with mine open.
The main thing is that you're taking time to talk to God and acknowledging Him.
Be blessed!! =)

Happens to me all the time too! I've started making a list of things to pray about so I wont get sidetracked and start rambling...
I do not "focus" on anything. I usually just talk to Jesus and God, like I would someone normally, about the stuff going on in my life.
Also, I do not close my eyes, I look up. Think of it like you're in a foreign country, you get kidnapped and you're begging for them to let you go. That's how I pray, not histerical crying and the sort...but you get it.

thats kinda cool (not really) cause i do the same thing! i feel really bad when i finally realize what im doing. i thought maybe i was just absent minded. i try so hard to stay on topic but it seems everytime im talking about something totally irrelivant. it kinda makes me a little mad that i cant have a simple conversation with God without my mind wondering. if u figure out how to stop, let me in on the secret too!!

I can only answer for myself when I say that I try not to have any mental image, I try to 'blank' my mind as I 'speak' to God and meditate and I actually stay quiet for some time, not to listen but just to feel peaceful and maybe gain some insight at the moment

Sometimes I pretend God the Father is actually in the room with me "in person." This helps me say what I would say if I were in His immediate presence. I have a testimony of the power of prayer. I know that it can help us in our lives. I know that Heavenly Father hears our prayers and answers them.

Carol,
When you talk to a person, you see that person don't you. The same for God, picture Him, your Father listening and conversing back and forth understanding Romans 8:28.

I usually pray for other people, so I visualize the person.

When I'm praying, who/whatever I'm praying for (i.e., my husband & family, our troops, thanking Him for Jesus, etc.) is who I picture in my head.
Edit: Kittypurplegirl, that also happens to me, so maybe it's more common than we thought, and we're not so weird?! (LOL)
